RACE 1
PROJECT RUNWAY has produced three good efforts to date. She showed pace on the turf last time, but did not go on with the effort. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber meets the right field and she can shed her maiden tag.
SERENDIPITOUS finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
CONFETTI is an unraced daughter of Canford Cliffs from the Alan Greeff stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.
RACE 2
GOLDEN LINK ran a good race when second in his last start over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Gold Standard should love the rise to 1400m. He gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time which may do the trick. He meets the right field today and can go one better.
NIKES RAY OF LIGHT finished 3.35 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He will strip a much fitter horse and can complete the exacta.
VELVET VALOUR showed improvement when second in his last start over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and there may be more to come from him.
RACE 3
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WILLIAM’S LEGACY from the Kelly Mitchley stable. He set the pace over 1600m last time, but found one too good in the form of Outer Dimension. The son of William Longsword should have no issues with the rise to 1900m and in this line-up, he can go close.
ISLAND MASTER finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
WOLFRAM ran a fair race when second in his last start. He has finished second three times and third twice from six starts over this C&D. He does have another wide draw to overcome, but Luyolo Mxothwa retains the ride and he should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
RACE 4
SLAINTE MHATH was doing his best work late when third in his last start over 2000m on this course. It must be noted that Woman’s World has come out and finished second in the Listed TAB East Cape Derby since. The son of Duke Of Marmalade takes on weaker opposition this afternoon and if repeating that effort, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
PUERTO PLATA finished 0.25 lengths behind HAROLD THE DUKE last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He jumps from a handy draw of five and is one of the leading contenders.
HAROLD THE DUKE was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 2200m on this course. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and merits healthy respect.
Race 5
GODFATHER ran a creditable race in his local debut over 1400m on this course. He jumped awkwardly leaving the starting stalls, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. His only career victory came over this distance. He jumps from barrier four and should strip much fitter. Kaidan Brewer retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
IRONTAIL fought hard for his last victory over 1300m on this course. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and with luck in running, he should pose a massive threat.
MEETATTHEWINDSOR ran a good race when second over this distance on the turf last time. He finished 3.7 lengths behind IRONTAIL in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He is carded to race on 14 May 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 6
ARTURO fought hard when second in his last start over this C&D. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. He carries another handy galloping weight of 54kgs and can go one better.
CHARLIE MALONE set the pace over 1400m last time but found one too good in the form of Masked Vigilante. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from eight starts on this course. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of eight, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
DUKE OF ORANGE‘S last two starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. If keeping on a straight line, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
RACE 7
PASSCHENDAELE stayed on when fifth over 1200m on the turf last time. She won a good race in her penultimate effort over this C&D. The daughter of Querari may be at her best on this surface and from her good draw of four, she should notch up her third-career victory.
EASY LIVING finished 3.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough to turn the form around. However, PASSCHENDAELE won easier than the official margin suggests and she may still have the upper hand.
BACK FOR MORE may not have seen out the 2000m last time. It must be noted that Joy And Peace has come out and won the Listed TAB East Cape Derby since. Her last victory came under Richard Fourie and she cannot be ignored.
RACE 8
CONCERTO should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung inwards in the closing stages. She has won once and finished second twice from six starts on this course. She is the class horse in this contest and may be the one to side with.
IQEMBULABESIFAZANE set the pace over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of You Win Again who has come out and won again since. She is likely to race on the speed from her good draw of four and may be hard to peg back.
TIME FOR GLORY ran a fair race over 1600m last time. The daughter of Time Thief takes a drop in class and in the ratings. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of seven, she may be the one to cause the upset
