2022 gets off to a traditional fast start in the English Premier League and we take a look at 3 of the matches taking place on Saturday and Sunday and suggest a bet in each.
It wasn’t that long ago that we looked like having a 3 team title race, but such has been Manchester City’s dominance in recent weeks that they have shortened to 1/8 favourites to win the Premier League with Liverpool at 8/1 and Chelsea 18/1.

SATURDAY
ARSENAL v MANCHESTER CITY
This is without doubt the match of the weekend and pits 4th placed Arsenal against log leaders, Manchester City.
The Gunners are in excellent form and have won their last 4 matches in a row including hammering Norwich 5-0 on the road last time out. Their last 2 home games were a 2-0 victory over West Ham and a 3-0 win over Southampton. They have only lost once on the road in 9 games, but had you been backing over 2.5 goals in each of Arsenal’s home matches you would have lost 5 of your 9 bets.
Manchester City made it 10 wins on the trot when they beat Brentford 1-0 away in midweek. It was a very different match to their previous game, a 6-3 home win over Leicester. City have only lost once on the road in 10 matches this season and there has been an even split of over and under 2.5 goals in the City away games. City themselves are averaging 2 goals a game on the road and they have only conceded 6 in 10 matches.
Manchester City have won their last 9 head-to-head League matches against Arsenal including beating them 5-0 at home earlier in the season. Last season this fixture finished 1-0 to City.

Arsenal 19/4
Draw 15/4
Manchester City 11/20
Suggested Bet: The draw at 15/4
City are naturally firm favourites for this game, but I have been very impressed with Arsenal of late and I think they can bring City’s victory run over them to an end by snatching a point.
CRYSTAL PALACE v WEST HAM UNITED
Crystal Palace go into this match 11th on the table and they are coming off a 3-0 home win over Norwich. They have only lost 1 home match in 10 games this season and Palace home games have averaged 2.7 goals each with 60% of the matches delivering profits for over 2.5 goal backers.
West Ham are 5th on the table, they halted a 3 match run without a victory when they beat Watford 4-1 on the road in midweek. Prior to that they had lost 3-2 at home to Southampton and 2-0 away to Arsenal. West Ham have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their away games, but those 3 losses have all come in their last 5 road trips. It has been a 50% split for over and under 2.5 goal backers in West Ham away games which have averaged 2.6 goals each.
These sides drew 2-2 at West Ham earlier this season and this fixture was won 3-2 by the Hammers last season.

Crystal Palace 43/20
Draw 49/20
West Ham 13/10
Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 15/20
These sides have a history of scoring goals and this bet would have arrived in 4 of the last 5 matches between the sides.
I was also eyeing out Both Teams to Score, Yes, but at 13/20 the price was just below my range.
SUNDAY
CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL
I did say that Arsenal v Manchester City was the match of the weekend, but I guess this one is on at least level pegging as 2nd placed Chelsea take on 3rd placed Liverpool. Both teams are battling a bit at the moment and Chelsea have drawn 3 of their last 4 including a 1-1 home draw with Brighton last time out. They have played 10 home matches winning 5, drawing 4 and losing 1 and digging deeper into the Chelsea goal stats there have been a total of 3.1 goals on average at Stamford Bridge this season with an even split of over and under 2.5 goals.
Liverpool have won 6 matches in a row before a visit to Tottenham saw them draw 2-2 after getting a red card and things went from bad to worse when they lost 1-0 away to Leicester in midweek despite dominating large parts of the match. Liverpool have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their 10 away matches this season and their away games have averaged 3.8 goals each with 80% of the matches delivering you a profit had you backed over 2.5 goals.
These sides drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture at Liverpool earlier in this season and last season it was the away team that won each match in the League.

Chelsea 41/20
Draw 5/2
Liverpool 27/20
Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 19/20
Neither of these sides appear to be in their best form and judging by recent head-to-head encounters we could have quite a tight and low scoring match as the last 3 head-to-head matches in the League would have delivered profits had you taken under 2.5 goals.
