BettingDiaryThe second of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals takes place on Thursday night when Leipzig play Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon, Portugal. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.

Leipzig maybe something of an unfashionable team given some of the other teams playing in the Champions league, but they had few problems in seeing off Tottenham 4-0 on aggregate in the last 16. They beat Tottenham 1-0 on the road and then followed that up with a 3-0 home victory. As far as the Group Stages went they topped the standings ahead of sides such as Lyon, Benfica and Zenit. Leipzig’s last action was a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg in a friendly match and they have only lost 1 in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid took on Liverpool in the last 16 and having won 1-0 at home they eventually triumphed 3-2 after extra time at Anfield. As far as their Group Matches go the only 2 defeats were on the road to Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen. Atletico Madrid have strung together a run of 18 matches without defeat and their last 4 games in all competitions would have delivered for under 2.5 goal backers. Atletico are traditionally a team built around defence.

Betting

Leipzig 23/10

Draw 43/20

Atletico Madrid 27/20

Suggested Bet: Under 1.5 goals at 7/4

While Leipzig will do their best to break Atletico down I expect the Madrid side defence to hold and this match to go down to the wire. The draw is certainly tempting at 43/20, but for me the value lies in under 1.5 goals at 7/4.
