BettingDiaryA quality field takes to the first tee at Sawgrass later this week for The Players Championship and we select 4 players to take on the field. This event always attracts a quality line-up and many have called for it to become the 5th Major. Personally I prefer to stay with 4 Majors and just appreciate this event for what it is, a great test of the world’s top golfers.

Sawgrass is a par 72 layout and one of those course that some players can just never get on top of. It has a variety of challenges and winners have varied as far as length off the tee goes. Good iron play is often a pre-requisite for success and players also need to watch out for the wind which can be a factor and there are plenty of hazards to grab any wayward shots.

SELECTIONS:

Collin Morikawa each way at 20/1

Morikawa sat out last week, but he is coming off a victory in his previous start. I have some concerns that this is his first time at the Players Championship, but it is his amazing iron play that has me on his side this week and if he can hold his form from 2 weeks ago he has every chance of contending.

Hideki Matsuyama each way at 33/1

Matsuyama is playing some good golf and has delivered 2 top 20 finishes in succession. A look at his course form shows some pretty solid results over the years including a Top 10 finish in 2019 and in 2016 and just 1 missed cut in 6 attempts.

Lee Westwood each way at 80/1

Westwood is playing some excellent golf and was runner up to Bryson Dechambeau last week. You have to go back a few years to find some good course form at the Players, but he did have a run of 3 Top 10’s in 4 years at one point. The way he is hitting the ball I see no reason why he cannot contend this week.

Jason Kokrak each way at 80/1

Kokrak is coming off back-to-back Top 10 finishes with an 8th place last week at the Arnold Palmer. His course form doesn’t make pretty reading although he has got better the last two years with a couple of Top 50 finishes. He is clearly a player on the up though and I am backing him to continue this rich vein of form.
