SHOOTING THE BREEZE

For the most part this weekend is filled with “easier” matches but the French quickly discovered that shooting the breeze can very quickly turn into battling for victory.

NEW ZEALAND vs NAMIBIA

Avoiding the trap

The Frenchies found out first hand that that you can’t just jog out against the “minnows” and expect to cruise to a comfortable victory. If you want to dish out a klapping you need to pitch up like a father who received “the call” regarding unruly children whilst at work and arrives home unclasping the belt as he opens the front door.

The thing to look out for with these games between the big teams and the smaller unions is the fact the little guys are always giving it their all whilst the big boys are more often than not resting some front-line soldiers for greater challenges that lie ahead.

Crystal ball prediction

Damian McKenzie might not be quite up to leading a top tier nation against the very best in the world but he is devastating when given a bit more time and space and the likes of Cameron Roigard and Anton Lienert-Brown are also bright individual talents who will look to shine. That being said, there was a cautionary tale to witnessed in Lille on Thursday night and I expect the Kiwis to experience some resistance, even if it is only for the first half an hour.

Where my money is going

Namibia first half handicap +34.5 @ 1.91

The Southern Africans might run out of puff in the end but I’m expecting them to put in a solid shift to start with. BET HERE

IRELAND vs TONGA

Ireland are taking no chances on this one and have selected a first class outfit with the likes of Sexton, Conor Murray, Van der Filer, O’Mahony etc all called on to get the job done. Tonga have some impressive names of their own in their ranks but this will be their first outing of the tournament and they could struggle to hit the ground running straight out the gate - and that against a clinical Irish side.

Where my money is going

Ireland first half handicap -17.5 @ 1.90

Tonga will get better in the comp but I expect the men in green to start fast here.BET HERE

The daily dabble

Namibia +83.5 / Portugal +15.5 first half cap / Ireland -33.5 @ (4.29) BET HERE
