FRANCE vs ITALY

You don’t have to be Jamie Oliver to know that pasta is best when its al dente – not sticky and starchy when its overcooked or rock hard when its under done. Well, the Italians got caught well and truly underdone against the mighty All Blacks and now it’s a case of whether perhaps they could prove to have gone too far the other way as they stewed on the disastrous Kiwi outing.

Crystal ball prediction

The French had their scare against Uruguay and they know full well that the Italians aren’t sweet cannoli’s to scoff down to your heart’s desire. That being said Italy is a proud nation and I’m expecting a proper bounce back in the opening half hour. At least.

Where my money is going

Italy +13.5 first half @ 1.91

France should get the job done in the end but the Azuri must be hungry to show they are much better than what happened a week ago.

The Boylesport Pie Shop

First Tryscorer – Peato Mauvaka was 10.0 boosted to 12.5 with BoyleSports

The French hooker has been busy in the loose and the home nation are sure to look to target their opponents upfront.

ENGLAND vs SAMOA

The Poms travelled to France a team in strife but have found wind in their sails now as they set their sights on a direct route to the medal stage of the competition. Team composition is much better at this stage (despite Johnny on the spot somehow retaining his jumper on the wing) with Ford and Farrell both in the line-up and a balanced loose trio as well.

The Boylesport Pie Shop

First Tryscorer – Ben Earl was 12:00 boosted to 15.00 with BoyleSports

I’ve been impressed by the number eight and he looms dangerously when it comes to pie time.

IRELAND vs SCOTLAND

Will the flower of Scotland be in full bloom or are the clinical Irish about to suck the wind out of the bagpipes of the kilted ones. The Scots play with passion but Ireland with precision. I’m expecting the world number one’s to apply the slow poison and eventually wrestle their opponents into submission and out of the tournament.

Where my money is going

Ireland to win by 1-12 points was 2.6 now boosted to 2.85 by Boyle Sports

I’m expecting this one to be as tight as a January budget between two proud opponents who know each other very well.

JAPAN vs ARGENTINA

The Argies might have put the boot into Chile but their performances against England and Samoa had me kicking myself for backing them to go deep in the tournament. Japan fell away in the second half against England but just about kept things together for the entire eighty in their victory over the big Samoans. The brave blossoms won’t be taking a step back and the talk in their camp will be that they could just topple the Argentines and make their second consecutive Rugby World Cup play-off phase.

Where my money is going

Japan +13.5 @ 1.95

Argentina have struggled whilst Japan will be playing with plenty of momentum at present.

The daily (weekend) dabble

England -17.5 / Ireland win / Japan +12.5 HT @ 2.55
