England

Defending champions England have 1 win and 2 defeats against their name. First time out they were thumped by New Zealand by 9 wickets before they put themselves on the board with a 137 run victory over Bangladesh.

England were overwhelming favourites for their match up with Afghanistan last Sunday but they crashed to a 69 run defeat. Batting first Afghanistan posted 284 (Adil Rashid 3/42) but a powerful England batting line up lost regular wickets and despite 66 from Harry Brook the writing was on the wall some way out as they were bowled out for just 215 in the 41st over.

South Africa

After starting with two impressive wins the Proteas fluffed their lines in their third outing when they went down by 38 runs to the Netherlands on Tuesday. The match was reduced to 43 overs per side and the Netherlands recovered from 140/7 to post 245/8. Marco Jansen with 2/27 from 8 overs was the pick of the Proteas bowlers.

The Proteas lost 4 wickets in the first 12 overs and when David Miller went for a top score of 43 the writing was on the wall. Maharaj hit 40 down the order but South Africa were all out for 207 in the final over.

South Africa began their tournament against Sri Lanka and they came out on top by all of 102 runs after posting a mammoth total of 428/5 (Quinton de Kock (100), van der Dussen (108) and Markram 106 off just 54 balls). In their second outing they took on Australia and despite starting as underdogs they won by 134 runs. Quinton de Kock was in the runs again, top scoring with 109 in a 134 run victory.

The Verdict

England have no margin for error and another defeat here could prove to be a terminal blow to their hopes of making the semi finals whilst the Proteas have to regroup after a dismal showing against the Dutch.

It's the first match of the tournament in Mumbai and gut feel is it has the potential to be a pretty high scoring game so I will go with the top individual batters total to be 107 runs or more.

Harry Brook gets the vote to score a 50 and I will also go with any Proteas bowler to be carted for 17 runs or more in a single over.

Bets: To Score a 50, Harry Brook at 18/10 with Betway
Top Batter Total over 106.5 at 17/20 with Betway
England Total In The Highest Scoring Over, over 16.5 at 17/20 with Betway
