The opening match of the Betway SA20 sees the Sunrisers Eastern Cape host the Joburg Super Kings in Gqeberha on Wednesday and the outright betting suggests this tournament is wide open.

Let's start with an outright betting update and the sponsors Betway make it wide open with Super Kings, Royals, MI Cape Town and the Sunrisers all trading at 4/1 whilst the Capitals and Super Giants are both 5/1.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Last years Player of the Tournament Aiden Markram skippers a Sunrisers squad which includes more local firepower in the shape of Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen and Dawid Malan is another notable name in their ranks. Liam Dawson, Tom Abell and Adam Rossington will also be flying in from overseas.
The Sunrisers are the defending champions having won the inaugural SA20 last year.
Joburg Super Kings
Faf du Plessis skippers the Super Kings and the squad is packed full of experience including Zaheer Khan, Imran Tahir and Moeen Ali. Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams are also part of the bowling unit and they will be looking for runs from Reeza Hendricks at the top of the order.
The Super Kings lost to the Sunrisers in the semi finals last season.

The Verdict
Working on the assumption (perhaps dangerous) that the vast majority of players in both squads are available it looks a tough call.
The Super Kings have a wealth of spin bowling options but my gut feel is that the Sunrisers, with home advantage, can make a winning start to their defence of the title. Key man Markram is fresh off a ton for the Proteas in a test match and the squad looks well balanced enough to enjoy a good tournament.
