RACE 1

SWEET CAKE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1400m on this course. Her penultimate run when second over this C&D, catches the eye. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and she should be the horse to beat.

AUDACIOUS has improved in her last two starts in the Eastern Cape. She finished 3.1 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate outing. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. Richard Fourie may be able to get the best out of her where it matters most.

FIRE FESTIVAL finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and if repeating that effort, there should not be much separating them at the finish.

RACE 2

RUNAWAY SONG should have finished closer to the winner last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The 6yo gelding has won over this distance previously. He gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. In this field, he should be the one to beat.

ZATARA MAGIC won a good race in his last start over 1900m on the Polytrack. Despite an awkward start, he set his own fractions and won easier than the official margin suggests. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

BOURNEMOUTH finished 4 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and will be looking to keep that record intact.

RACE 3

CORAL CREEK raced from a handy position over 1300m last time but found one too good in the form of King’s Sailor. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The son of Global View should love the switch to the turf and he will enjoy the longer straight. He has scope and should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

KOHANA should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was awkwardly placed and had to be switched for running room at the 200m mark. The son of Futura will love the rise to 1400m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

OLIVER TWIST showed some improvement when fifth over 1600m last time. The drop to 1400m is a slight concern but he has plenty of scope and may have more to come.

RACE 4

ANCHOR MAN showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and from his good draw of two, he can go one better.

DONNY’S BOY is coming along the right way. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. With a bit of luck in running, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

GARDENER’S PRIDE finished 0.15 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

Race 5

LADY WRITER has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She stayed on when third over 2000m on the polytrack last time. She has won once, finished second once and third four times from eight starts on this course. With a bit of luck from her wide draw of 10, she should notch up her third-career victory.

ARABIAN RED set the pace over this distance on the polytrack last time and fought back well to hold all challengers at bay. She received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Heavenly Blue is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders.

CICADIDAE finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

NO PLACE LIKE HOME took on stronger company in his last start over 1900m on the polytrack. He drops in class and despite his big weight, he should be the one to beat in this line-up.

JUAN CARLOS ran a cracker in the Non-Black Type Port Elizabeth Gold Cup last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts on this course. The drop in trip is a slight concern but he is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

EL REY VIENE has faced stronger company in his first two local runs. He drops in class and is having his peak run. The re-fitting of the blinkers may do the trick and from his good draw of three, he should find a form return.

RACE 7

CRUISE CONTROL returns to the Eastern Cape after three runs in KZN. His effort when fourth in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint three runs ago, catches the eye. He moved up like a winner that day before getting caught late. The son of Querari has won three times from four starts over this C&D. His last three victories have come under Luyolo Mxothwa and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure once again.

SPEED MACHINE showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. He gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. He should strip a much fitter horse and is one of the leading contenders.

VIES FIRST got up late when winning his last start over this distance on the polytrack. He has won twice, finished second three times and third once from eight starts over this C&D. He is in a good space and merits inclusion.

RACE 8

INNAMORARE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied in the latter stages. He has won four times, finished second twice and third once from 13 starts over this distance. The 5yo gelding will be at peak fitness for this outing and if all went well with his travels, he should be too good for this field.

BRENDEN JAMES is better than his last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last outing has come out and won since. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. Sean Veale is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

MASKED VIGILANTE has consistent form lines to his credit. He takes on stronger, but always gives of his best and merits obvious inclusion
