Pirates

 

Pirates lifted the MTN trophy in 2020 and they earned a crack at regaining this crown after knocking out last season's winners Mamelodi Sundowns over 2 legs in the semi finals. After a goalless first leg in Orlando the Bucs looked up against it but they came through with a 3-0 win. In the quarter finals Pirates scored in each half of a 2-1 win away to Royal AM.

 

After a 1-0 defeat to Chiefs in last week's Soweto derby Pirates are currently fifth in the DSTV Premiership with a record of 5 wins, 4 draws and 4 defeats.

 

Amazulu

 

Amazulu haven't won a major trophy for 3 decades and they have come through some tight contests to reach this final. They edged past Cape Town City 2-1 away from home in the quarter finals thanks to an extra time goal after the game finished locked up at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

 

That set up a semi final date with Chiefs and Amazulu drew the away leg 1-1 and a 0-0 draw in the return saw them squeeze through.

Amazulu were 1-0 winners at home to Stellenbosch in the DSTV Premiership last weekend and they are seventh in the standings, 2 points behind Pirates with a record of 4 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats.

 

Recent Head to Head

 

The teams met in the DSTV Premiership in Orlando on 14^th October, the game finished in a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the first half.

The Verdict

 

Before last weekend's league win over Stellies Amazulu had played out 4 successive draws across all competitions. They find goals hard to come by but the defence has improved as the season has gone on and they will be tough to break down.

 

The league meeting this season was level at half time and full time and that might be worth a nibble here.
