BettingDiaryA round up of the betting for the major sporting events taking place on Wednesday 12th June including Junior World Championships Rugby, Cricket World Cup, Women’s World Cup football and we also look ahead to the US Open at Pebble Beach.

Golf:

We start with golf and the 119th edition of the US Open gets underway at Pebble Beach (Par 71) on Thursday. We have a full suite of betting markets available including outright winner, top 10 and top 20 finish and leading player by region just to mention a few.

We will look at some of the alternative markets in Thursday’s bulletin but as far as the betting to win the tournament is concerned right now Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Rory Mcilroy are jostling for favouritism at around 17/2 and Tiger Woods can be backed at 12/1.

Dustin Johnson has an excellent record at Pebble Beach and the 2016 winner has Koepka, who has won this tournament in each of the last 2 years for company. Meanwhile Mcilroy proved his well being with a comfortable win in Canada last week so you can understand why the market leaders are hard to separate. Tiger Woods last won the US Open in 2008 and when the tournament was staged at Pebble Beach in 2010 he won as he pleased.

Further down the list Patrick Cantlay’s chances of landing a breakthrough major have been talked up in many quarters and at around 22/1 he warrants attention. A top 10 finish, something which Cantley has made a habit of this year, is a more conservative alternative at odds of 18/10.

We side with Dustin Johnson to win outright given his form at this course with Patrick Cantley taken as a top 10 finisher.

Rugby, Junior World Championships

All 6 of Wednesday matches in the Junior World Championships will be televised live including South Africa’s clash with New Zealand which kicks off at 20:30. These sides lead the way in Pool C with South Africa having beaten Scotland (43-19) and Georgia (48-20) whilst New Zealand put Georgia away (45-13) before beating the Scots (52-33).

Betting on the match is available now and at the time of writing the Junior Boks were being given a 7.5 point start on the handicap.

The other later kick off sees England clash with Australia and the Aussies are currently 4.5 point favourites on the handicap having collected a full house of 10 points from their first 2 matches.

Earlier in the day Scotland (-5.5 points) take on Georgia and Wales are the biggest favourites of the round at -17.5 points for their clash with Fiji.

Outright betting to win the tournament is also available with New Zealand the market leaders at 15/10 ahead of France at 2/1, Australia 33/10 and South Africa are currently a 13/2 chance.

Super Rugby

Staying with the rugby but this time looking ahead to the weekend, the betting is out for the final round of matches in the Super Rugby regular season. The Highlanders have already attracted plenty of early betting interest for their must win game against the Waratahs on Friday. The 2 big South African derby matches take place on Saturday with play off places still to be secured. The Stormers are 3.5 point favourites for their virtual eliminator against the Sharks at Newlands and the Bulls can be backed at 7/10 to win their clash against the Lions at Loftus. Cricket World Cup

Wednesday’s Cricket World Cup action sees Australia bid to bounce back from a weekend defeat to India when they take on Pakistan at Taunton. Australia have won 2 of their 3 matches so far whilst Pakistan have 1 win, 1 defeat and 1 no result from their first 3 outings. Given Pakistan have beaten tournament favourites England they are not to be underestimated but we feel Australia, who are 4/10 favourites to win the game, will come out on top. A full match preview is available on this link with a couple of Australians selected to give us a run for our money in the Man of the Match market.

Football

The Women’s World Cup group stage continues in France and the hosts will be in action in the final game of the day when they take on Norway in Group A whilst Nigeria clash with Republic of Korea in the other match in that quartet. Germany take on Spain in Group B which will be of interest to Banyana Banyana who are preparing for their second match which comes against China on Thursday.
