Italy delivered a profit for the newsletter last week when they failed to reach 18 points although I must admit to being impressed with them, they really made the All Blacks work hard for the win.
Overall it was a good weekend for me despite a slow start (losing on France and Ireland games) hitting unders on the Bok game, over 7.5 tries England and Scotland -3.5 against the Aussies.
SMALL LOSS CUTS DEEP
My weekend though revolved around my lowest stake bet namely R25 on an 8400/1 double in the golf.
I had Elvis Smylie in Aus at 75/1 and Vince Whaley in the USA at 110/1 and aside from top 10,s and small win bets on the pair I took the win double not for a second believing it would be a runner.
The bet was R25 down to win R210 000 and when Smylie won and Whaley led by a shot with 14 to play I dared to dream (he was 5/2 at this point). Unfortunately so did Whaley and he dunked his drive on the 5th in the water and never got back into the mix. I can tell you it felt like I had lost R200 000 not R25.

I am not getting too involved this week on the one hand because I don’t have any strong feelings on the URC and on the other because I play my year end poker tournament later today so my focus will be on the felt.
A Royal Double Up!
If you go back 1 year you will recall the newsletter bet on Royal Victory for the Summer Cup at 66/1. It was a brilliant win for the connections including of course Goodforthegame’s Mackem whose wife Natasha owns a share in RV.
He runs again this afternoon in what is South Africa’s richest horserace, having confirmed his status as one of the top horses in the country with a 3rd in the July. His odds are a lot shorter this year and there seems to have been plenty of money for RV who is in from 10/1 to 5/1 2nd fav.

Australia to keep Ireland honest!
I have really enjoyed the International matches over the last month and we have just one this weekend but it is a cracker.
Ireland host Australia who play their 4th high profile test in a row. The Aussies have played some great rugby on tour but they were disappointing last week against Scotland.
Ireland for their part have not really fired and I handicapped this game Ireland -8.5 so for me there is value in backing the visitors on the handicap.
