Matchday 1 of the Uefa Champions League group stage takes place in midweek and @Olimp_SA have a preview for AC Milan vs Newcastle, PSG vs Dortmund and Bayern Munich vs Manchester United
Champions League Matchday 1 Preview.
Football fans will have little to complain about as the ever-entertaining Premier League is now complemented with mid-week Champions League action kicking off on Tuesday. We`ve picked 3 games we`re keeping an eye on this week.
AC Milan vs. Newcastle – Tuesday, 18:45.
Milan`s 3-game winning streak was torn apart by Inter in a 5-1 defeat. Still, they welcome Newcastle to San Siro, where they lost just 2 home games in Serie A last season, and 2/6 home games in the UCL campaign. The Rossoneri are evidently a fierce opposition when playing at home, and this is likely to be a difficult game for the Magpies.
Newcastle broke their 3-game Premier League losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Brentford. The Magpies return to the UCL for the first time since 2003, albeit their defensive record does them no favours as they`ve conceded 7 goals in just 4 games this season. Neither of the sides lacks the goalscoring firepower, therefore, we expect both teams to score, but AC Milan to win by a narrow margin. BET HERE
PSG vs. Dortmund – Tuesday 21:00
CL returns to the bright lights of Parc des Princes, although the Parisians could`ve hoped for a better form. PSG have won just 2 of their 5 opening Ligue 1 fixtures, with 2 draws and a recent 3-2 defeat to Nice at home – an underwhelming display after a busy summer. PSG welcomed BVB to Paris back in 2020, winning the tie 2-0.
Dortmund have played 4 opening Bundesliga fixtures without a defeat, with a recent 4-2 victory over Freiburg. However, last season`s UCL group-stage campaign saw them win just 2 games, and only 1 of their last 6 away games in the UCL ended with a win. Neither of the sides looks convincing going into the 2023/2024 European campaign, but we do anticipate an exciting show. Therefore, we expect both teams to score and over 2.5 goals. BET HERE
Bayern Munich vs. Manchester United
The Bavarians opened their Bundesliga season with 4 unbeaten games – 3 wins and 1 draw. The Bavarians hold an impressive home record – having lost just 1 Bundesliga game in Munich and been unbeaten in the UCL at home last season. Considering their immaculate home form, we think United are in for a long night on Wednesday.
Chaos is brewing at Old Trafford as ten Hag`s men won just 2 of their 5 opening EPL games. The Red Devils took an embarrassing 3-1 defeat against Brighton, having lost to Arsenal prior. United`s backline seems to be all over the place, having conceded 11 goals in just 4 games. It is also known that the Devils are woeful on the road, and therefore, we expect Bayern to win, and over 2.5 goals. BET HERE
