SWEDEN v AUSTRALIA – Click here to bet

SWEDEN

Sweden qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup when they topped their group with a 100% record, finishing 5 points above South Africa who came 2nd. They were then underdogs in their Round of 16 clash against the USA, but won on penalties after the match finished goalless after extra time.

They were also underdogs in the quarter-final against Japan where they were on offer at 23/10, but won that 2-1 before meeting Spain in their semi-final. Sweden were priced at 28/10 for this game and after 80 minutes without a goal we had a dramatic final 10 minutes with Spain opening the scoring in the 81st minute only for Sweden to equalise in the 88th.

They dropped their guard though and Spain grabbed the winner just a minute later.

AUSTRALIA

Australia also topped their group winning 2 matches and losing 1, that loss coming against Nigeria. They were 19/20 favourites to win their Round of 16 match against Denmark which they did 2-0 and they then started as underdogs against France, but after 120 goalless minutes they won on penalties.

Australia were 5/2 to win their semi-final against England in 90 minutes, but in a pulsating match it was England who came out on top 3-1 thanks to 2 goals in the last 20 minutes.

RECENT HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides last played in a friendly International in 2022 with Australia winning 4-0.

VERDICT

Sweden are favourites here at 29/20 with the draw at 5/2, but I think that Australia will deliver for the home supporters.

Suggested Bet: Australia win at 15/8

SUNDAY

SPAIN v ENGLAND – Click here to bet

SPAIN

Spain finished runners-up to Japan in their group after the Japanese after the Japanese had hammered them 4-0 in the final group match. They were then 1/4 favourites to beat Switzerland in the Round of 16 game and they achieved this with a 5-1 victory before they required extra time against the Netherlands where they won 2-1 having been 15/20 to win inside the 90 minutes.

Spain also started favourites against Sweden in their semi-final winning 2-1 with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes.

ENGLAND

There were many (myself included) who expected England to struggle in this World Cup as they had a long injury list. They have been excellent though and came through their group with a 100% record before been pushed by Nigeria in the Round of 16 winning on penalties after no goals in the 120 minutes.

England had started that game as 1/4 favourites to win inside the 90 minutes. They were then 4/10 to beat Colombia which they did 2-1 in the quarters and 13/10 to beat Australia which they achieved 3-1 with 2 goals in the last 20 minutes.

RECENT HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides last met in Euro 2022 with England winning in extra time.

VERDICT

Spain are 17/20 to lift the Cup with England priced at even money and looking at the 90 minute betting Spain are 17/10, the draw at 21/10 and England 15/8.

This should be a tight game and I think we are going to be heading towards extra time and will be backing the draw as my main bet, but I am also going to be taking a nibble on England to win the game on penalties.

Suggested Bet: The draw (90 minutes) at 21/10

Suggested Bet: England to win on penalties at 9/1
