The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is the venue for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix where Max Verstappen will be going for an incredible 8th successive victory of the season.
CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
It was a case of “as you were” in Hungary last week with Max Verstappen beating Lando Norris home by 33 seconds and Verstappen’s teammate, Perez completing the podium in his Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton started in pole position, but could only finish 4th and Oscar Piastri validated our faith in him finishing 5th. Verstappen has now won 7 successive Grand Prix’s and only failed to win 2 races in 11 this season and in both of those he came 2nd. He leads by an incredible 110 points over teammate Perez with Alonso who appears to have lost form, 32 points back in 3rd.
Bookmakers are no longer pricing up on the Drivers Championship, but they do have a winner without Verstappen Market where Perez is trading as a 9/20 favourite, Hamilton 2/1 and Alonso at 12/1, Norris is 66/1 and you can get 100/1 and better the balance

BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Max Verstappen will be looking for a 3rd successive Belgian Grand Prix having qualified on pole last year before beating his teammate, Perez into 2nd place. Carlos Sainz Jnr. finished 3rd in his Ferrari and Verstappen completed the clean sweep also taking the fastest lap.

VERDICT
Max Verstappen is predictably short here at 1/3 to win his 8th successive Grand Prix and for those interested the record of consecutive wins is 9 held by Sebastian Vettel. As much as I expect Verstappen to win the race I am not the sort of punter who gets my thrills from 1/3 shots so I will be taking a look, as I have done in recent weeks, at some of the other markets on offer.
Last week we backed Oscar Piastri at 12/5 to finish in the Top 6. This week though bookies have wizened up to him and he is short as 5/10 so I won’t be looking to repeat the bet.
Looking back at last year’s Belgian Grand Prix Verstappen was dominant, qualifying 1st, getting the fastest lap as well as winning the race and he is 16/10 to do likewise this weekend and I am happy to have a go at that.

Our second bet last week was Alex Albon to finish in the Points and he narrowly missed, finishing 11th which is now his worst position in his last 4 starts and he is turning in some consistent performances . He was 10th here in 2022 and I think anything above even money is a decent price for him to run into the Top 10.
