WSB Logo Orange 80x80With half of the Formula 1 season behind us the action moves to the Hungaroring this weekend where Max Verstappen will be going for his 7th successive victory of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Max Verstappen got the clean sweep at Silverstone when he qualified in pole, won the race and also got the fastest lap. The local crowds did have something to cheer about as the Brits, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton followed him home and it was also a notable performance from Oscar Piastri finishing 4th.

With 10 Grand Prix’s still to go the Championship race is all but over as Max Verstappen sits 99 points ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez. Fernando Alonso is a further 19 points back with Hamilton 16 points behind Alonso.

Bookmakers have effectively closed betting on the Championship race, but you can get a price on the Winner without Verstappen market where Perez is currently trading as a 5/10 favourite, Hamilton is 3/1 with Alonso 5/1 and 50/1 and better the balance.

HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen came from 10th on the grid to win the 2022 running of the Hungarian Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton in 2nd and Hamilton’s teammate, George Russell in 3rd. Hamilton recorded the fastest lap. That was Max Verstappen’s 1st win at the Hungaroring and in 2021 there was a shock result when Esteban Ocon took the chequered flag. That broke a run of 3 successive Lewis Hamilton victories and Hamilton has won this race a record 8 times.

VERDICT

I can’t bring myself to back a 7/20 shot in Formula 1, but at the same time I can’t argue with the price given just how dominant Max Verstappen is at the moment.

If you do want to back him for the win World Sports Betting have a constructors one/two special where you double your pay out should your selection win and his teammate runs 2nd and if that would be the case and Perez were to chase him home then you would collect a 70% return on investment.

Piastri impressed me at Silverstone and the McLaren – Mercedes seems to be going well at the moment. I am going to back him to hold his form and to finish in the Top 6.

Suggested Bet: Top 6 Finish Oscar Piastri, YES, at 12/5

Another rider who has shown improved form in recent weeks is Alex Albon who has gone 7, 11, 8 in his last 3 starts and on that basis the 2/1 that he finishes in the points makes some appeal.

Suggested Bet: Points finish, Alex Albon, YES, at 2/1
