BettingDiaryWhen Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet in the DSTV Premiership the country comes to a standstill. We take a look at the big Soweto Derby from a betting angle.

Both of these teams are very much in contention for the runner-up spot behind Mamelodi Sundowns and good news for punters is that World Sports Betting have priced up on a market without Sundowns, in other words the team you back in this market needs to finish 2nd.

SuperSport and Orlando Pirates are currently trading at 28/10 favourites with Richards Bay 7/2, Kaizer Chiefs are 9/2 and you can get 14/1 and better the balance.

KAIZER CHIEFS

Kaizer Chiefs are currently 5th on the table with only 1 win in their last 6 starts. Last time out they were beaten 3-2 at home by Golden Arrows and they will be very disappointed to have led twice in the match and ultimately ended up without any points.

This been a Derby match it is essentially a home game for both sides, but Chiefs home form is certainly a concern and they have taken 13 points from 10 matches this season, the same tally that they have got on the road.

9 of the 20 Kaizer Chiefs matches have delivered profits for over 2.5 goal backers this season and Chiefs matches averaged 2.3 goals each, amongst the highest in the Division.

ORLANDO PIRATES

Pirates are currently 3rd on the table 3 points ahead of Chiefs with both sides having played 20 games.

Pirates recent form has been strong with 4 victories in their last 5 games. They did lose their penultimate start at home to Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0, but aside from that have looked in very good form and 3 of their 4 victories have been by more than a goal.

Pirates PSL matches have been very low scoring, averaging just 1.8 goals each with only 4 of the 20 matches reaching the 3 goal mark. They are trending towards higher scoring games though and 3 of their last 5 games have seen you collect as an over 2.5 goal punter.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Chiefs beat Pirates 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and the most surprising stat to me in recent head-to-head League encounters is that we haven't had a draw in 7 matches dating back to February 2019. All of the games have been close though and the last 7 matches have been decided by exactly 1 goal and 4 of those 7 games have had 3 goals or more in them.

Kaizer Chiefs 33/20

Draw 39/20

Orlando Pirates 39/20

Given that this is essentially a neutral fixture and the fact that Pirates look to be in the better form of the two sides, I am surprised that Chiefs have been priced as favourites here. For me the value lies in Orlando Pirates taking 3 points.

Suggested Bet: Pirates win at 39/20

I am also going to have a nibble on Pirates winning by exactly 1 goal continuing the recent trend of close matches between the sides.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Orlando Pirates -1, the draw at 33/10
