WSB Logo Orange 80x80This week the PGA tour heads to Nevada for the Shriners Children’s Open where bookies favourite Tom Kim will bid for his 3rd successive title. We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

Course

TPC Summerlin will play host to this week’s competition. Regarded as the easiest course on Tour, the wide-open fairways and large greens are an opportunity for the pros to go low over the four days. The par 71 course plays at around 7,255 yards and straight hitters are generally favoured and although the rough is cut short approaching from the fairway is an advantage.

Past Winners

2023    Tom Kim (South Korea)                                  -20                   1 stroke

2022    Tom Kim (South Korea)                                  -24                   3 strokes

2021    Im Sung-jae                                                    -24                   4 strokes

2020    Martin Laird (Scotland)                                   -23                   Playoff

2019    Kevin Na (United States)                                -23                   Playoff

With the majority of the top players sitting out after the conclusion of the FedEx Cup the opportunity for a number of players to bag a win is ripe for the taking. Tom Kim the 2 time defending champion, is favourite to win and is trading at 13.00 while Taylor Pendrith is trading at 23.00. The bookies have Davis Thompson and Beau Hossler both at 29.00 but this looks a week where it could pay to have a long shot or two in your staking plan.

SELECTIONS:

Tom Kim at 13.00

There is a reason he is the favourite going into this week. Tom Kim managed to defend his title last year winning the tournament after also winning it in 2022. He has had a solid season of golf, finishing in the top 25 on a number of occasions and although his game hasn’t been at his best he looked to be coming to hand in the Presidents Cup. In such a weak field even an 80% Tom Kim has a good chance

Tom Kim each way at 13.00

Seamus Power at 34.00

Power has been on a solid run, finishing 11th or better in three of his last four starts with the other result being 26th at the Irish Open in September. He will be another golfer looking to take advantage of the weaker field and will look to put a win under his belt. His form here doesn’t jump off the page but he did have a top 25 in his penultimate start in 2021.

Seamus Power each way at 34.00.

Adam Hadwin at 41.00

Hadwin finished runner-up at last years tournament only one stroke behind Kim. He has finished in the top 10 in this tournament in 4 of his last 5 starts but is coming off a rest. I am hoping he is fresh and ready to make a back 9 Sunday charge.

Adam Hadwin each way at 41.00 and a top 10 finish at 5.00

Kyoung-Hoon Lee at 101.00

Lee ticks the course form box with a 7th place finish last year and a top 15 in 2021. He has been making cuts without shooting lights at and had a top 25 in his penultimate start.

Kyoung-Hoon Lee each way at 101.00 and Top 20 at 4.50
