The Proteas will be looking to wrap up a Series win when they host India in Paarl in the 2nd ODI on Friday. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.
South Africa were as big as 15/10 to win the 1st ODI, but they came up trumps for their supporters and followers of this Blog. They won the toss and decided to have first use of the wicket and after a steady start accelerated nicely to finish at 296 for 4. Captain, Temba Bavuma scored 110 off 143 balls and he was involved in an excellent partnership with Rassie van der Dussen who got a 129 not out off 96 balls. For the Indians Bumrah got 2 for 48 to be the pick of the visiting bowlers.
India looked to be going along very well at 138 for 1 and then 181 for 3 in their chase, they were eventually 265 for 8 in their 50 overs. There were decent contributions from a number of the batsmen with Dhawan top scoring with 79, Kohli getting 51 and towards the bottom of the batting line-up, Thakur weighed in with 50 not out. South African bowlers spread the wickets amongst them, for my money the pick was Keshav Maharaj with his 1 for 42 in 10 overs including breaking the critical partnership between Dhawan and Kohli.
This match takes place at the same ground and while India are still favourites, South Africa have shortened in to the betting at 12/10.

South Africa 12/10
India 7/10
Suggested Bet: South Africa win at 12/10
Things seem to be running South Africa’s way at the moment and I was very impressed with them in the 1st ODI, they are also coming off the Test Series victory over India and the tourists may just be getting a bit weary of being on South Africa shores. This should be another good match and I am willing to give the nod to South Africa at current prices.
Suggested Bet: Top Home Bowler, Maharaj at 7/2
Shamsi is naturally the favourite in this market, but it is a competitive one and as mentioned above I was impressed with Maharaj in Wednesday’s victory. I am hoping the Indians will look to get after him at some point and that could bring a bucket full of wickets.
Suggested Bet: Top Indian Batsman, Virat Kohli at 5/2
Kohli remains favourite in this market and he showed me enough in Wednesday’s game to suggest he is coming into form strongly. He has an excellent ODI record and I think he is set for a big knock on Friday.
Suggested Bet: Most Match 6’s, South Africa at 12/10
Indian are priced at 19/20 for this market with the tie quoted at 6/1. Sixes were hard to come by in the 1st ODI, but despite the high scores and for South Africa, Rassie van der Dussen got all 4 and that was enough to win the six race 4-1. With that in mind I am quite pleased to take anything above even money on South Africa in this market.
