WSB Logo Orange 80x80The PGA Tour travels to Houston this week, for the Houston Texas Open and we select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Course

The tournament will be played at Memorial Park for the 18th time. The last three Houston Opens where played in November however, the tournament is returning to its usual springtime slot in the calendar. Memorial Park is a parkland course with wide open fairways and thick rough. This serves up a risk and reward situation for long hitters of the ball. The greens are slightly larger and faster than the PGA Tour average and the course requires an element of creativeness and a soft touch. The par 72 plays 7292 yards.

Scottie Scheffler is heavily favoured to win this weekend and the bookies have him at 11/4 to chalk up another victory. Wyndham Clark is second favourite and is currently trading at 12/1. Sahith Theegala is currently trading at 18/1.

2023   No Tournament

2022    Tony Finau (United States)     -16      4 strokes

2021    Jason Kokrak (Unites States)    -10  2 strokes

2020    Carlos Ortiz (Mexico)             -13       2 strokes

2019    Lanto Griffin (United States)   -14       1 stroke

Selections:

Scottie Scheffler 11/4

There is a reason why the bookies have him as short priced favourite to win. The world number one will be looking to collect his third consecutive PGA Tour title this weekend. Scheffler put in an impressive performance last week winning the Players Championship by one shot finishing -20 as he came from off the pace. Scheffler finished runner up here in 2021 and 9th in 2022 so he ticks the course form box as well.

Suggested bet: To win outright 11/4

Tony Finau 28/1

The defending champion will be looking to put in a solid performance and hold on to his title. Finau has not been on the greatest run of form, missing last week’s cut and finishing 45th the week before. I am banking on the fact that returning to Houston will give him the motivation to bounce back and defend his title.

Suggested bet: Each way at 28/1.

Wyndham Clark 12/1

The current US Open Champion has been on top form recently. Finishing runner up in his last two starts. Clark will be looking to better that this week and win the tournament outright. Clark has improved with every visit to Memorial Park and finished 16th in 2022.

Suggested bet: Each way at 12/1.

Joel Dahmen 80/1

Dahmen has excellent course form and was 9th in 2022 and 5th in 2021. His recent form is solid with 3 successive cuts and a best finish of 11th in his penultimate start.

Suggested bet: Each way at 80/1 and Top 10 at 7/1
