BettingDiaryThe PGA Tour moves to Charlotte in North Carolina this week for the Wells Fargo Championship played at the Quail Hollow Club. We select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

Quail Hollow is a par 71 layout and generally favours those that are long off the tee. Accuracy is also important though and it certainly is one of the more challenging layouts on tour where finding the Greens in Regulation is also critical. The winning player is likely to use his length to take advantage of the par 5 while playing solid golf around the rest of the course.

Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm dispute favouratism at 11/1 with Bryson Dechambeau at 14/1 and you can get 18/1 Rory Mcilroy and 20/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS:

Webb Simpson each way at 22/1

Simpson is having a good year and has 2 Top 10 finishes in his last 5 starts including last time out a couple of weeks ago. He also has some excellent form in this event with a runner-up finish and a Top 5 finish, all be it those date back to 2015 and 2012. In 2019 he did finish in the Top 20 and given the golf he is playing now I am expecting him to go close this week as he really is the perfect golfer for this type of course.

Max Homa each way at 35/1

It is very tough to defend your title in Golf Tournaments, but I give Max Homa quite a strong chance this week. He finished in the Top 10 last week and has some good performances including a victory earlier in the season. He does throw in the odd bad tournament now and then, but he is generally consistent and at 35/1 I am quite happy to have him on side this week.

Rickie Fowler each way at 75/1

Fowler has really gone off the boil of late and you haven't seen him at the top of the leader broads for some time. His last finish was a Top 20 though and he comes in to this well rested and with excellent course form, including a Top 5 finish last time he played here in 2019. Fowler, when on form, is an excellent shot maker and I have just seen signs that he is coming back to life.

Jason Day each way at 55/1

Day fits into a similar bracket as Fowler in my mind in that he hasn’t performed to his top level for some time, but he has thrown in some decent results, although you have to go back 6 events for his last Top 10 finish. What catches the eye though is the fact that he won this event two years ago so he clearly has the game for this course.
