BettingDiaryThe final English Premier League midweek action takes place in London on Thursday night with Tottenham hosting Liverpool. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.

Tottenham have had a short turnaround from their FA Cup victory over Wycombe on Monday night, but they did rest many of their top players. After something of a slump, Tottenham are on the up and are undefeated in their last 4, winning 2 and drawing 2 and they currently sit 5th on the log, a point behind Liverpool, but with a game in hand.

Digging a bit deep into Tottenham’s home form they have played 9 matches with 4 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats and their last home game was a disappointing 1-1 draw against Fulham. If you were backing over 2.5 goals in every Tottenham home match you would only have collected in 3 of the 9 games and their home games have averaged 2.6 goals each this season.

Liverpool have only taken 3 points from their last 5 matches and they haven't won in that time period. They are coming off a 1-0 defeat at home to Burnley, a shock result that ended a lengthy unbeaten spell at Anfield.

Liverpool have struggled on the road this season, winning 2 and drawing 5 of their 9 matches and they have only won 1 of their last 5 on their travels.

The stats for over or under 2.5 goal backers are exactly the same for Liverpool away matches as Tottenham home games with 3 of the 9 matches reaching 3 goals or more.

Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield in the reverse fixture earlier this season and that was their 5th successive victory over Tottenham in the League. All of those wins have come by exactly 1 goal margins.

Tottenham 9/4

Draw 51/20

Liverpool 12/10

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Tottenham (+1), the draw at 31/10

I expect very little between these teams and this could well be a cagey affair. Given that Liverpool have won their last 5 games against Tottenham by 1 goal margins I just can’t resist going for 6 in a row at a price of just over 3/1.

Were I looking at the goals market I would probably be leaning Under 2.5 goals at 19/20 and it was certainly good to see Salah in scoring form for Liverpool in the FA Cup and he would be my pick for First Goal Scorer at a price of 7/2.
