WSB Logo Orange 80x80The PGA Tour heads to Mexico for the World Wide Technology Championship and sees the debut of a new course, El Cardonal which is designed by none other than Tiger Woods.

THE COURSE

The course plays to a par 72 and although we don’t have any Tournament form to go on, the fairways are wide and the greens are large but there are plenty of bunkers scattered about the course. This looks likely to be a course to suit the big hitters and although weather can be a factor at this coastal venue, the forecast for this week looks pretty good.

MARKET LEADERS

There are some good players teeing it up this week, but it certainly isn’t the strongest of fields and Ludvig Aberg is the current favourite at 17/2 ahead of Cameron Young at 12/1. Sahith Theegala is 14/1 and you can get 28/1 and better the balance.

VERDICT

I am going to put the favourite into my staking plan this week, but I also have a feeling that we could get a big upset and I am going to go wide with the rest of my selections.

SELECTIONS:

Suggested Bet: Ludvig Aberg win only at 17/2

Aberg has been playing very well on the European Tour and hasn’t finished outside the Top 15 in his last 5 starts. He also has a runner-up finish, a Top 4, a Top 5 and a victory in that time and he has plenty of distance off the tee and should be able to take advantage of this course.

Suggested Bet: Chesson Hadley each way at 66/1

Hadley is a player that has gone a bit quiet of late, but did show up with a 7th place finish in his last start a two weeks back. He had been showing progressive improvement before then and is a player who has proven he can go low something I think is going to be required this week.

Suggested Bet: Erik van Rooyen each way at 66/1

Van Rooyen is another player who hasn’t been shooting the lights out, but has been putting in some solid performances. In his last 5 starts he hasn’t finished worse than 30th and he has a Top 10 and two Top 20’s to his credit. He doesn’t take on the strongest field here. He is only 1 of 3 South Africans in the field this week (1/1 to be Top South African) and I am hoping he can take some momentum out of the Springboks victory in the Rugby World Cup.

Suggested Bet: Cameron Champ each way at 40/1

I was on Champ last week, but he disappointed finishing just inside the Top 60. Prior to that though he had some solid form and a Top 20 and a Top 10 finish. He is plenty long off the tee and has played in Mexico before with two Top 10 finishes in the Mexico Open and I am going to give him a chance to redeem himself.
