Tournament Preview

The second incarnation of the Ras al Khaimah Championship gets underway in the United Arab Emirates, with some of the biggest names on the European Tour chasing some early season silverware in the gulf swing. New tournaments are consistently popping up on both the PGA and DP World Tours and the event at the Al Hamra Golf Course in RAK has attracted a stellar field for its first edition. Frenchman Victor Perez heads up the list of big names in action, with names such as Andrew Johnston and Padraig Harrington also sure to pull in the crowds. The prize purse is a rather handsome $2 million and there are the usual plethora of big names lining up to get their share and their hands on the trophy come Sunday.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

Big names from Europe and beyond will be hoping to get 2022 off to a flying start here in the UAE:

Victor Perez – 18/1

Frenchman Victor Perez held his nerve to prevail at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi last month and his performances over the past 12 months have suggested hie is very much a front runner in DP World Tour events.

Adrian Meronk – 18/1

Pole Adrian Meronk is cutting his teeth on the DP World Tour and with some excellent recent showings, he will be looking to go well here and propel himself into the Ryder Cup reckoning.

Ryan Fox – 20/1

Kiwi Ryan Fox has been one of the most consistent performers on the DP World Tour over the past 12 months and he looks to be mixing it in a very winnable field here in the UAE.

Rasmus Hojgaard – 20/1

Dane Rasmus Hojgaard has along with his brother Nikolai, given a new lease of life to the DP World Tour and their rivalry looks set to intensify for years to come and this looks to be an event both should go well in.

John Caitlin – 80/1

American John Caitlin hasn’t been in the best of nick, but he has the game to beat anybody on his day and if he finds any sort of form here, he will be tough to stop.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first-round leader picks:

Thorbjorn Olesen – 40/1

Having been able to put his off course troubles behind him at the end of the year, Dane Thorbjorn Olesen should be raring to go here in Ras al Khaimah and could sneak under the radar somewhat.

Pablo Larrazabal – 60/1

Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal has been in excellent form over the past 12 months on the DP World Tour and his tendency to get off to a good start makes him look a little overpriced here.

Top 10 Finish

There are plenty of stellar names in contention to finish in the top 10 come Sunday afternoon in the sun at the Al Hamra Golf Course in Ras al Khaimah:

Padraig Harrington – 4/1

Former major winner Padraig Harrington has been rekindling some majestic form in recent times and he will enjoy the favourable playing conditions here in Ras al Khaimah this week.

George Coetzee – 5/1

South African George Coetzee is prolific on the DP World Tour and he is always there or thereabouts in the biggest events on the calendar, especially in decent playing conditions.

Scott Jamieson – 5/1

Scott Jamieson has a habit of being quick out of the blocks and he could be in amongst it again from the off in Ras al Khaimah this weekend.
