Golf: The CJ Cup

Venue: Shadow Creek, Las Vegas, Nevada
Dates: Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th October 2020

Tournament Preview

The CJ Cup is one of the newest events on the PGA tour, having first been played in 2017. The competition is normally played at the PGA Nine Bridges Course in Jeju, South Korea but is being held at Shadow Creek, Las Vegas in light of the COVID 19 pandemic. The top 60 players in the FedEx Cup standings are all scheduled to take part along with many up and coming golfers on the PGA Tour. With Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas on the list of previous winners, the prestige of the event almost speaks for itself. With over $9 million on the line too, there is plenty to play for in Las Vegas this week.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

Some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here in Las Vegas and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware:-

Dustin Johnson – 10.00

World number one Dustin Johnson has been in the form of his life in 2020 and he looks set to make another assault on a big event here at Shadow Creek this week.

Jon Rahm – 10.00

Bullish Spaniard Jon Rahm continues to impress on the PGA Tour, and few would bet against him competing this week on a course that should suit his game style.

Justin Thomas – 12.00

Defending champion Justin Thomas has enjoyed another sparkling year on the PGA Tour and having won the CJ Cup twice previously, he should be full of confidence in Las Vegas this week.

Tommy Fleetwood – 40.00

Tommy Fleetwood hasn’t enjoyed his best year on either the European or PGA Tour but has established himself amongst the games’ elite on the PGA Tour.

Sergio Garcia – 65.00

Mercurial Spaniard Sergio Garcia picked up the Sanderson Farms title a fortnight ago and he showed glimpses of that form at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Championship last week too.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-

Rory McIlroy – 25.00

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy continues to struggle for consistency but on his day, he is still one of the very best in the world.

Billy Horschel – 80.00

Another man that hasn’t been in his best nick is Billy Horschel but the enigmatic American will be hopeful of a strong start here to set him up for a good week in Las Vegas.

Kevin Na – 90.00

Kevin Na hasn’t been in the best of form in recent weeks, but he is a quality performer, and he could step up to the plate here in Las Vegas, a state that Kevin Na has enjoyed success in before.

Top Ten Finish

With so many quality players assembled here in Las Vegas, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-

Matthew Wolff – 1.50

Emerging Canadian Matthew Wolff finished 3rd at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Championship last week and his 2nd place at the US Open last month further underlined his credentials on the PGA Tour.

Hideki Matsuyama – 1.80

Japanese superstar Hideki Matsuyama is one of the most consistent performers on tour and he looks well set to go deep here at Shadow Creek.

Abraham Ancer – 5.00

Enigmatic Mexican Abraham Ancer has been an emerging force on the PGA Tour in recent seasons and he looks overpriced to finish in the top 10 in Las Vegas this weekend, having finished 4th last time out.
