RACE 1
CALL TO GLORY returns from a lengthy 34-week break and is having her first run for the Alan Greeff stable. She has finished second three times from as many starts over this distance. Trainer Alan Greeff is no stranger to bringing his horses to the track fit for their return. If suited to the polytrack, she should give the males a run for their money.
KING OF QUEEN has finished second in his last three starts. He raced from a handy position last time, moved up but was outrun late by Battle Of Kursk. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SWEET AND TRUE has produced two good efforts to date. He should have finished closer last time as he was inconvenienced at the 400m mark. If seeing out the 1400m, he should be involved at the finish.
RACE 2
HANGING ROCK is having her first run for the Alan Greeff stable and Richard Fourie is booked to ride. She was in need of her last start over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. It must be noted that First Masterpiece has come out and won again since. If settled into her new surroundings, she can win a race of this nature.
MILLION REASONS rallied late when second in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Heavenly Blue is a progressive type and with a bit of luck from her awkward draw of eight, she should be competitive.
QUEEN OF JAZZ finished 0.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
RACE 3
This is a weak Open Maiden field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SUNDROP from the Jacques Strydom stable. She raced from a handy position over 1600m last time and rallied late to finish third. She has finished second once and third twice from four starts over this C&D. In this line-up, she can shed her maiden tag.
MILLENNIUM DANCER finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
WHATCHMYTAIL finished 1.15 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
RACE 4
GREAT TIMES finished 1.6 lengths behind FOREST SPY last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. With luck in running, he can notch up his third-career victory.
FOREST SPY ran on well when winning his last start over this C&D. He jumps from pole position and can follow up with another victory.
ARTURO was a tad disappointing in his last start over this distance on the turf. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. He is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 5
CRUISE CONTROL has won his last two starts over 1000m with ease. The son of Querari is unbeaten from four starts on this course. He has no issues with the 1200m and from his good draw of three, he should take a power of beating.
CLIFF TOP finished 6.85 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. Three of his six career victories have come over this distance and he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
EVIES FIRST ran a good race when second over 1000m on this course last time. If getting away to a clean start, he should earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 6
YOU WIN AGAIN was super-impressive when winning her last start over 1300m on this course. She took the lead at the 300m mark last time, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She received the maximum eight-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a good space and with luck in running, she can follow up.
MIDNIGHT CRYSTAL challenged strongly when second in her last start over this C&D. Despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
SEA OF TEARS followed up her maiden victory with a good fourth-place finish over 1300m on this course. She has won once, finished second twice and third twice from eight starts over this distance. The daughter of Crusade is in a good space and she merits healthy respect.
RACE 7
MASKED VIGILANTE ran a decent race in his local debut over 1000m on the turf. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and he should love the rise to 1400m. If suited to the polytrack, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
CHARLIE MALONE should have won his last start as he was held up for a run at the 300m mark. He has cracked pole position which is a big plus. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
THE CHARIOTEER was not disgraced when third against stronger company over 1600m last time. He drops back in class and with Luyolo Mxothwa back in the saddle, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 8
HAWK CIRCLE received a bump leaving the start last time and stayed on to finish fifth. His previous two efforts were good. Both his career victories have come over this distance and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.
GUERRA ran a good race when second over 1400m on the turf last time. He finished 4.35 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
GUNSMOKE ran a creditable race over 1300m last time despite reported to be not striding out. It is encouraging that jockey Chase Maujean steps back into the saddle. If putting his best foot forward, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
