Race 1
ALWAYS SHINING has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He set the pace over 1400m last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Pomodoro should have no issues with the drop back to 1200m. He meets the right field this afternoon and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
GENERAL BYNG ran a fair race in his first run for the Kumaran Naidoo stable. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he is one of the leading contenders.
FEATHER DANCER showed some improvement in her last start over this C&D. The blinkers have been re-fitted and Muzi Yeni retains the ride. From her good draw of three, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 2
WAR EMPRESS finished 1.75 lengths behind VISION TO ACHIEVE last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice and finished second once from six starts over this C&D. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
VISION TO ACHIEVE showed good speed over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but found one too good in the form of Kennedy. She meets a similar field this afternoon and may be hard to peg back.
RAPID FIRE is better than her last start at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Her two previous outings under 4kgs claiming apprentice Brevan Plaatjies were decent. She carries a light mass of 51kgs and may be the one to cause the upset.
Race 3
CANFORD QUEEN showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a handy position and stayed on to finish second. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is a progressive type. She meets the right field and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she should be the one to beat.
NTOMBENHLE has fair consistent form lines to her name. She lost a length leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish second. The daughter of Noble Tune should love the rise to 1800m and she is one of the leading contenders.
CITY LIGHTS hails from the visiting Fanie Bronkhorst stable. Her recent form with the tongue-tie fitted has been fair. With luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
FUTURE OF ENERGY is better than his last two starts over 1600m. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to 1900m. He drops in class and from pole position, he may be the one to cause the upset.
FINE ADMIRAL stayed on strongly when third over 1800m on this course last time. He won his penultimate outing over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
TOM’S ACT should have won his last start as he was baulked for running room between the 350m mark and 50m mark. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and with luck in running, he can return to winning ways.
Race 5
BOM BOM should have finished closer last time as he hung inwards and received a bump at the 300m mark. The son of Ideal World has dropped in the ratings. He tries the polytrack and if keeping on a straight line, he can win a race of this nature.
CUPID’S SONG took on stronger in his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. His last two victories have come under Richard Fourie and the pair merit healthy respect.
TEICHMAN’S last two starts have been good. He has won twice, finished second five times and third once from 12 starts over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of two and should be competitive.
Race 6
CHARA SANDS’ last two starts have been good. He raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. The 5yo gelding takes a drop-in class. He does have to overcome the widest draw, but Rachel Venniker knows him well and she should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
MASK ON has been taking on stronger company in recent outings. He finished 4.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.
INAFIX is better than his last start at the Vaal. His penultimate run when fourth over this distance on the Vaal Classic course was encouraging. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, he should feature.
Race 7
EMERALD GREEN should have finished much closer to the winner in her post-maiden effort as the saddle was reported to have slipped in running. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight takes on weaker opposition today. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Brevan Plaatjies which will assist her cause. With luck in running, she may be the one to beat.
BLUSH OF DAWN was an easy winner of her last start over 1400m on this course. Four of her six career victories have come over this C&D. Jabu Jacobs retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
PERFECT TRUST finished 2.2 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 8
CERULEAN DANCER has good consistent form lines to her credit. She has won once and finished third three times from five starts over this distance. If all went well with her travels and with luck in running, she may be the one to beat.
CHELSEA FLOWER‘S last two starts have been good. She won her penultimate run over this C&D. She does have to overcome the widest draw, but she gets the services of Serino Moodley who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
KITTEN’S ADVENTURE is better than her last start in soft going at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Two of her three career victories have come over this distance. She has cracked pole position and on best form shown, she can return to winning ways
