Race 1
Five of the horses in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. FINE ONE produced a promising debut effort over 800m on this course. He showed good speed, but was outrun late by Ibhele. The son of One World would have gained from the experience and he should be the one to beat.
HORSE PHAROAH is an unraced son of Master Of My Fate from the Kumaran Naidoo stable with Siphesihle Hlengwa in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Helen’s Ideal and Helen’s Blush. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note.
GROVEFIELD hails from the Yogas Govender stable and he is a son of Canford Cliffs. He is related to multiple winners including Intrepid Traveller and Sashay Away. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 2
JUST RECKLESS produced a promising debut effort over 800m on this course. She should have finished closer to the winner that day as she shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. She would have come on from the run and will love the extra 100m on offer. She is the stable elect with Tristan Godden in the saddle and should make the natural progression.
ETHEREAL VIEW finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice on debut. She showed good speed that day and stayed on at the finish. She would have gained from the experience and should be competitive.
EXTRACTION stayed on when fifth over 800m on debut. She will enjoy the extra distance on offer. Mathew Thackeray is booked to ride and she should show improvement.
Race 3
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is RAILROAD from the Michael Roberts stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. He ran a good race when third over this C&D last time. He could have won that day as he was carried inwards at the 200m mark. He will be at peak fitness and in this line-up, he can shed his maiden tag.
MENT TO FLY showed some improvement in his last start over 1200m on the Polytrack. It is interesting that the blinkers have been removed as he drops in trip. Jabu Jacobs retains the ride and if confirming his recent improvement, he can feature in this line-up.
CATAVAR had excuses on debut over 1200m on this course. He returns from an 18-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. Sean Veale is booked to ride and there should be improvement to come.
Race 4
WYATT’S CHOICE showed some improvement in his last start over this C&D. He was green in running and brushed the rail at the 1400m mark. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The son of Global View is a progressive type and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
SCAMPTON set the pace over 1700m on the polytrack last time, but was outrun late. This will be his first run on this course. If this outing has not come too soon, he should pose a massive threat.
SWEEPER KEEPER ran a fair race over 1400m on the Polytrack last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to the mile. He is having his peak run and should earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 5
AFRICAN BEAT took on slightly stronger in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She finished third in her penultimate run over this C&D. The daughter of Querari should strip much fitter and from her good draw of three, she can notch up her second career victory.
FAMILY FAVOURITE ran a good race when third over 1900m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. Three of her four career victories have come on this course. If Chase Maujean is able to switch her off early, she should go close.
AQUAE SULIS finished 0.8 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 6
KAILENE is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She returns from a 10-week break which may have done her the world of good. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, she can return to winning ways.
TWINKLELITTLESTAR ran a good race when second in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She lost a length leaving the start, but finished off her race strongly. She takes a rise in class, but she has ability and should be up to the task at hand.
MALCOLM’S DREAM was in need of her last start at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She was an easy winner of her penultimate run over this C&D. She will strip a much fitter horse and with her handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs, she cannot be ignored.
Race 7
CAPTAIN’S CHRISTY is the best bet on the programme. She should have won her last start over 1200m as she had to be eased at the 300m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Captain Of All is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. She is the best weighted runner with 51kgs on her back and she should give the males a run for their money.
GOOD TRAVELLER was running on when second over 1200m on this course last time. The drop to 1000m is no concern and he is one of the leading contenders.
AFRICAN SKYLINE finished 1.95 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 8
NORTHERN WARRIOR has been his own worst enemy in his last two starts as he has hung in the closing stages. However, the manner in which he has been running on has been eye-catching. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and if keeping on a straight line, he should be the one to beat.
LAZY GUY’S last three starts have been decent. He has won once, finished second twice and third twice from eight starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
QUICK STAR has produced two decent comeback runs on the Polytrack. He finished 0.4 lengths behind the second selection in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line
