Race 1
Seven out of the eight runners here are unraced juveniles, six of which are trained by Mike Miller and the pick would appear to be ETHEREAL VIEW, to be partnered by stable jockey Tristan Godden.
JET LAVISH hails from the Kom Naidoo stable and will be ridden by Richard Fourie. She could prove the danger. However as is the case with such races, the betting could prove to be the best guide as to the chances of each of these runners.
BLUE VELVET, from the visiting yard of Corne Spies, is the sole raced entrant. She has Gavin Lerena up and finished seventh on debut over 800m, 10.75 lengths adrift of the victor. She would have gained from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she could loom the immediate danger.
Race 2
CAPE EAGLE finished 1.1 lengths behind See It Again last time out over a mile and could be too good for this field. He has his peak run and gets the services of Richard Fourie.
CHEROKEE TRAIL had his consistency rewarded with a one-length victory last time out over a mile. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and could emerge as the biggest threat to the top choice.
NAVAJO NATION is the stablemate to the latter and missed out on his hat-trick when finishing fourth last time out over a mile, 2.4 lengths off the winner. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.
Race 3
FIRE PHOENIX has posted two solid last runs, the latest when second over five furlongs, 1.8 lengths adrift of the winner, this despite being reported to be coughing. She will be looking to go one better here.
GRECIAN PALACE showed marked improvement to end up in second spot last time out over 1200m, 0.4 lengths back from the winner. She showed plenty of toe in that event and could prove difficult to reel in over this shorter trip. She will also have 4kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice, Kobeli Lihaba.
HEAD GIRL is a speedy sort who finished third last time out over five furlongs, 2.3 lengths back from the victor in her first run since relocating from Cape Town. She would have come on with that run under her belt and from pole position, she should be involved in the finish.
Race 4
FIREFLARE has improved in each of his first three runs, the latest when second over 1750m, just 0.4 lengths behind the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from gate eight, he will be hoping to make amends today. He has re-united with stable jockey Craig Zackey.
FUTURE FLO has recorded two solid last runs, finishing second in the latest over a mile, 1.4 lengths off the winner when returning from a rest. The gelding jumped inwards, but stayed on over the closing stages and will get 1.5kgs claiming Rachel Venniker back in the saddle.
IRISH LUCK is drawn one inside the latter and finished 2.2 lengths fifth last time out over seven furlongs, despite coming wide into the home straight. He has only had the three outings to date and tries the mile for the first time.
Race 5
MASK ON goes for his hat-trick after two wins over today’s sprint trip, the latest by 0.4 lengths. He ran on well that day and from his handy draw two, the trio is very much on the cards.
SHOT OF COURAGE has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third in his last two outings, the latest when 1.6 lengths behind the winner over this C&D. He retains the services of the 4kgs claiming apprentice, Kobeli Lihaba and his early gate speed makes him a real threat here.
NORTHERN WARRIOR did finish 1.3 lengths back from the victor in the race mentioned above, just ahead of the second pick, but he is 0.5kgs worse off at today’s weights and the latter is more consistent.
Race 6
WILLIAM ROBERTSON has his hat-trick run after wins over 1160m and the latest over seven furlongs by 2.5 lengths. He was ridden by Gavin Lerena on both those occasions and he retains the ride here. The drop in trip should not present a problem and he will be looking to chalk up his tenth career success today.
AFRICAN SKYLINE has finished second in six of his last seven outings, winning the other, the latest being a runner-up over six furlongs, just 0.3 lengths behind the victor. He has his second run after a rest and will be hoping to go one better today.
STRAWBERRY BEAR on the other hand has won four of his last five runs, finishing second in the other, with his latest victory coming over a mile by 0.3 lengths. He went from gun to tape and he is likely to adopt the same tactics here.
Race 7
FORESHORE missed out on her quartet of victories when finishing second last time out over a mile, 0.4 lengths behind the winner. She was left with too much to do that day and with Sean Veale back in the irons, she will be looking to get back into winning ways today, jumping from a useful gate three.
MINOGUE has only had the five runs to date, but has won two, finished second twice and finished a close up fifth in her penultimate start over a mile. She is in fact unbeaten from two starts over this trip and with Richard Fourie sticking with the ride, she should keep the top pick honest.
MORGAN LA FAY ran on from some way back to win her last start over seven furlongs by 1.2 lengths going away. She has pole position and seems likely to post another solid performance today.
Race 8
DOCTOR’S ORDERS has been narrowly beaten into second place in her last two outings, the latest over 1900m, just 0.9 lengths behind the winner. She has a neat draw two and will be looking for her second career victory.
DRIVE BY won her penultimate start over a mile and then finished second next time out over seven furlongs, 0.3 lengths back from the winner. The mare ran on well in that contest suggesting that she will enjoy the step up in distance, which she tries for the first time.
FASHIONIGMA improved to end up in third spot last time out over 1900m, 0.4 lengths behind the victor. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie sticks with the ride
