Race 1

LADY CRUSADE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished third in her last two starts, the latest over seven furlongs, 6.5 lengths behind the winner. She raced handy that day and drops down to five furlongs, which she may well be better suited to at this stage of her career.

BOB finished third in his latest outing over six furlongs in a workriders event, four lengths back from the winner. He has not been far off the action in all three of his runs to date and should be right up there when they hit the line.

FLYING PUMA is another 4-year-old filly in the race. She put up a decent effort over this distance four runs back, but has her breathing issues, which is an obvious concern. If putting in her best run, she could be a factor in this line-up.

Race 2

SMASHING raced green but stayed on well when finishing fourth on debut over five furlongs, 2.5 lengths back from the winner. She would have gained from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she could be the one to side with here. She renews her rivalry with

GLAWARI who finished 2.25 lengths behind the winner in the same race as mentioned above, but as the latter meets her on 2kgs worse terms today, she may find it difficult to confirm that result. It should however be noted that GLAWARI was having her first run for her new stable since relocating from Cape Town that day, so there should not be much separating the pair when they reach the finishing post.

ENCHANTING LADY was also in that race, finishing sixth, 3.25 lengths adrift of the victor. She too meets the top choice on 2kgs worse terms, so is not likely to be able to turn the tables on the top pick.

Race 3

HAZLO GRANDE was returning from a rest when finishing fourth last time out over nine furlongs, 1.4 lengths behind the winner and has won twice over today’s trip. He was unfancied in the betting that day and is likely to have come on with the run under his belt.

DJ JUNIOR goes for his hat-trick after two wins over a mile, the latest by 2.25 lengths. He steps up in journey here, but did finish second in his only go at this distance, so this should not be an issue.

BANHA BRIDGE returns from a 12-week rest and will have the blinkers removed for today’s run. He finished well when second last time out over nine furlongs, 0.4 lengths back from the victor and if not in need of the outing, he should be a big runner in this contest.

Race 4

SPRING IN HEAVEN is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she ran on strongly when finishing second in her latest outing over a mile, just a neck behind the winner. She won over this C&D four runs back and will be hoping to do the same today, despite a wide gate nine.

UNIVERSAL LOVE is another 3-year-old filly in the race. She has finished third in her last two runs, the latest over this C&D, 3.75 lengths back from the victor and should turn in another honest performance here.

CARNELO followed up his victory in a mile contest with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same journey, 2.75 lengths off the winner. The gelding tried to go from gun to tape that day and was only run out of it late. He steps up in trip today and could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is advised. SCALLYWAG has consistent formlines to his credit, finishing fifth last time out over 1450m, but just 1.25 lengths behind the winner and is unbeaten on today’s track. He returns from an 11-week rest, but his trainer certainly knows how to get them to win first run back.

TIZONA returns from a slightly longer 15-week break, but finished fourth last time out over 1450m, 2 lengths off the winner. He stayed on well that day and has finished second five times over today’s trip. He is the stable companion to the top pick and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

WILLOW’S WISH showed good improvement when finishing third last time out over ten furlongs, 1.5 lengths behind the winner. He gets a handy draw four and the services of in-form Gavin Lerena to aid his cause.

Race 6

SHARAPOVA was a model of consistency before taking an 11-week rest, finishing third in her last start over 1450m, 0.55 lengths back from the winner. She was bumped in that contest, so can be considered an unlucky loser. With Gavin Lerena up, she could make amends today.

RADU stumbled at the start but recovered well to win her last start over a mile by 0.5 lengths. She finished strongly in that event and it is encouraging that Piere Strydom has stuck with the ride.

SWEET BASIL has only had the two runs to date, winning over seven furlongs on debut and following that up with a second-place finish next time out over 1450m, just 1.2 lengths off the victor. She gets a handy draw two with Richard Fourie in the irons and whilst stepping up in distance, this might be just what she is looking for.

Race 7

SIMPLE SIMPLE set the pace and was reported to have made a respiratory noise when finishing fourth in her last start over seven furlongs, 3 lengths back from the winner. She drops in trip, but given her early gate speed, this should not be an issue and Richard Fourie is a bonus.

IN THE BEGINNING returns from a 21-week break, but did finish second in her last start over six furlongs, beaten a short-head. She shifted around over the closing stages that day, which probably cost her the race. If fit and well, she could chalk up win number three today.

LUCY IN THE SKY attracted plenty of betting support when finishing third in her latest outing over seven furlongs, 0.3 lengths behind the winner. She has finished second twice over the C&D, so the drop in distance should not be an issue.

Race 8

IN THE ETHER has been a model of consistency, having finished second in her last two starts over five furlongs, the latest 2 lengths behind the winner. She was running on smartly that day and should enjoy the extra ground of today’s contest.

EDWARD RYE won his first start for his new stable over 1160m by 4.75 lengths easing down. The gelding takes on stronger here, but the manner in which he dispatched the opposition in that last start would suggest that he is up to the task at hand.

TWICE THE STORM lost a length at the start when ending up in third-place last time out over 1160m, 2.1 lengths behind the victor. If jumping on terms today with Richard Fourie in the saddle, he should be involved in the finish
