Race 1

SEATTLE RIPPER finished 1.7 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
ATTABOY finished 0.6 lengths behind the second selection on debut. He lost a length leaving the start that day, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Trippi would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 2
FREEDOM SQUARE showed good improvement in her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. The daughter of Rafeef is a progressive type and may be the one to side with. She is carded to race on 23 July 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
MOUNTAINSOFTHEMOON stayed on at the finish over 1200m last time, but found one too good in the form of Querandi. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Pathfork will love the extra furlong on offer and she is one of the leading contenders.
MADAME POMPADOUR has improved in her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1500m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. With luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
PRINCE OF TARANTO has finished second in his last three starts. He was running on too late over 1600m last time. Two of his five career victories have come over this distance. The son of Crusade is having his peak run today and with Muzi Yeni back in the saddle, he may be rewarded for consistency.
CELESTIAL CITY is a winner of his last two starts over a mile. The drop to the 1400m is an obvious concern, but he has class about him and can notch up the hat-trick.
FORMAGEAR won a game race in his last start over 1500m on this course. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and if this run has not come too soon, he can follow up.
Race 4
QUEST FOR THE BEST showed good speed over this C&D last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Despite his big mass of 61.5kgs, he should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
QUESTION OF FAITH won a good race at the second time of asking. He showed good speed and kept finding all the way to the line. The son of Erupt does take on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
THE GLIDING FISH was not beaten far in the Non-Black Type The Fort Stud KZN Breeders 1200 last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. If jumping on terms, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 5
TRIBUTE TO YOU was an easy winner in a work riders handicap last time. He showed a good turn of foot and drew clear of the opposition. The son of Wylie Hall was given a six-pound penalty for that victory. He runs well for Keagan de Melo and he can follow up with another victory.
TWICE THE STORM has shown some signs of needing his last two starts on the Highveld. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. The son of Twice Over will be cherry-ripe and with Lyle Hewitson in the saddle, he should pose a threat.
MOYA WA LALIGA won a good race over this C&D last time. He showed good speed and found another kick where it matters most. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is the stable elect with Athandiwe Mgudlwa retaining the ride and he should be competitive.
Race 6
ROYAL GUIDE hails from the visiting Alec Laird stable with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride. He set the pace over 1700m at the Vaal last time, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has class about him and he should be too good for this field
NATIONAL STAR raced from a handy position over 1400m at Turffontein last time, but was caught late. She has won once, finished second twice and third twice from six starts over this distance. The daughter of Pomodoro should give the males a run for their money.
CAPTAIN ROCKET moved up like a winner last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Sequoia. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Captain Of All is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 7
EMERALD PRINCESS is better than her last start in the Listed Syringa Handicap as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She returns from a 10-week break which may have done her the world of good. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight won her only attempt on this course. Lyle Hewitson rides on her return and she may be the one to side with.
QUEEN OF SHADOWS ran on powerfully when winning her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. The daughter of Vercingetorix is in a good space and if all went well with her travels, she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SOUTHERN CAPE won a good race in her last start over 1750m on this course. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and she may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 8
EL REY VIENE ran a fair race in his last start over 1750m on this course. He raced from a handy position that day and stayed on at the finish. The son of William Longsword will be at home over the 1950m and in this line-up, he can return to winning ways.
NEWS STREAM finished 2.8 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned. He won his only attempt over this C&D and cannot be ignored.
WARRIOR BLING was his own worst enemy over 2000m on the polytrack last time as he over raced in the early stages. He won a good race in his penultimate start over 1900m. If finding the form of that race and if Robert Khathi is able to switch him off early, he should have a say
