Race 1
COSMIC QUEEN ran a good race on debut over 1100m on this course. The daughter of Var returns from a 22-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She is well-bred and if not in need of the run, she should be the one to beat.
PRETTY PRECIOUS is better than her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. She returns from a 12-week break and is having her first run on the Highveld. On best form shown, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
GUN BARREL is an unraced son of Fire Away from the Brett Crawford stable and Malesela Katjedi is booked to ride. He is related to multiple winners including Jaimala and Frances Ethel. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrant.
Race 2
PIONEER SQUARE has produced two good runs to date. He stayed on at the finish over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Potberrie. The son of Querari should love the rise to 1600m. He is a progressive type and can shed his maiden tag.
ONE MORE STAR finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
OBSIDIAN ran a fair race over this distance on the Inside course last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of eight, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
GLAMOROUS LADY has finished second in her last three starts. She set the pace over 1700m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Ambitious Lady. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
TUSCAN STAR showed some improvement in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She returns from a 12- week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
ONO NO KOMACHI has run two fair races to date. She should have finished closer last time as she was switched late. With a bit of luck in running, she can run into the placings.
Race 4
WILD AT WAR ran a cracker when second in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If seeing out the 1600m, he should be hard to peg back.
GREATERIX followed up his maiden win with an equally impressive victory over 1100m on this course. The son of Vercingetorix should love the rise to 1600m. He is a horse with class about him and can notch up the hat-trick.
WAHEED was doing his best work late when fourth in the Grade 3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes last time. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 5
DYCE is a winner of his last two starts. He showed good speed over 1100m at the Vaal last time and won easier than the official margin suggests. The 6yo gelding is the class horse in this contest and with Piere Strydom retaining the ride, he should take a power of beating.
WILLIAM ROBERTSON won a good race over this C&D last time. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
MRS BROWNING should have finished closer in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint last time as she hung outwards throughout. She returns from a 15-week break and makes her seasonal debut. She has won four times and finished third once from six starts over this C&D. If keeping on a straight line, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 6
ALMOND SEA is lightly raced with top form lines to her credit. She showed good speed over this C&D last time, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. The 17-week break would have done her the world of good. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and should notch up her fifth-career victory.
TIME FO ORCHIDS finished 2 lengths behind EXCHANGE STUDENT last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She won her only attempt over this C&D and cannot be ignored.
EXCHANGE STUDENT ran a fair race over 1200m on the Inside course last time. She has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this distance. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 7
ATTICUS FINCH‘S last three starts have been good. He raced from a prominent position over 1600m on the Inside course last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Master Of My Fate won this race last year. With a bit of luck from his wide draw of ten, he should retain his title.
PURE PREDATOR was in need of his comeback run over 1160m on this course last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck in running, he should pose a threat.
MAIN DEFENDER is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge. He has won four times and finished second once from as many starts on this course. He will strip a much fitter horse today and cannot be ignored.
Race 8
JOKER MAN is better than his last two starts suggest. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts on this course. His best form has come under Gavin Lerena and he may be the one to side with in this line-up.
IMPERIAL MASTER has good recent form lines to his credit. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from 11 starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
COMMAND PILOT was running on when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and should give a good account of himself.
Race 9
WHITE PEARL stayed on strongly when fourth in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this C&D. She jumps from a good draw of three and will strip much fitter. Piere Strydom retains the ride and she may be the one to beat.
BEATING WINGS won a good race over 1600m on the Inside course last time. She won her only attempt over this C&D. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause. She is in a good space and can follow up.
GIMME A SHOT is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and she cannot be ignored.
Race 10
CHIEFTAIN showed good speed over this distance at the Vaal last time before getting outrun late by John Wick. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he should be the one to beat.
KING OF VENUS won a good race in his last start over 1100m at the Vaal. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. He is likely to race on the pace and may be hard to peg back.
ZANTHAR ran a fair race over 1200m on the Inside course last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Varun Jodhee which will assist his cause
