Race 1

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is ZOOM LADY from the Alec Laird stable. She was her own worst enemy over 1200m last time as she over raced in the early stages. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. In this type of field, she can win.

GOTCHA BUZZ ran a fair race over this distance on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that Chocolate Bomb has come out and won again since as well as the second place finisher that day. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CHASING HAPPINESS is an unraced daughter of Rafeef from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including True Words and With Pleasure. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2

MY LADY SOUL produced a promising debut effort over 1200m on this course. She understandably raced green, but the manner in which she finished off her race was eye-catching. The daughter of Master Of My Fate found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the horse to beat.

CALL TO GLORY has been costly to follow. She finished third in her last start over 1600m on this course. The drop to 1450m will suit her well and JP van der Merwe may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

COURAGEOUS has fair form lines to her name. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will be at home over this distance. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 3

MOOLA MAN was given a peach of a ride when shedding his maiden tag over 1200m at the Vaal last time. The manner in which he quickened up to get the better of Kinshin Sha was eye-catching. The son of Lancaster Bomber takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

DUNGEONS stayed on at the finish over this distance last time, but found one too good in the form of Rain Or Shine. The son of Canford Cliffs has dropped to a competitive rating and he is one of the leading contenders.

SAGE KING should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had no luck in running. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He will strip a much fitter horse and with luck in running, he can go close.

Race 4

EYE OF THE PROPHET took the lead at the 200m mark last time, fought hard but was touched off by Emirate Gina. The son of Gimmethegreenlight won his only attempt over this C&D. He has racing fitness on his side and with Rachel Venniker taking the 1.5kgs off his back once again, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure

BINGWA is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. He has finished second four times and third once from six starts on this course. His best form has been under Gavin Lerena and he merits healthy respect.

WILLIAM ROBERTSON was doing his best work at the finish when fifth in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He has cracked a good draw of three and cannot be ignored.

Race 5

EMPORIUM followed up his maiden victory with a decent fifth-place finish over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. He may not have been ready for the mile at this stage of his career. It must be noted that Running Rifles has come out and won again since. He is the best-weighted runner in this contest and may be the one to side with.

CLARKSON has some decent recent form lines to his credit. He has won twice and finished third once from six starts on this course. Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

GLOBAL IMPACT ran a fair race in his last start with the tongue-tie fitted. He has won twice from three starts on this course. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but S’manga Khumalo should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

BATTLEGROUND was an easy winner of his last start over 2400m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Futura should have no issues with the step up to 2600m and he can follow up.

AMERICAN GRAYSON won a game race in his first run out of the maidens. He was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over this C&D in his penultimate start. The son of Pomodoro stays all day, is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

ABSOLUTE VALUE finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 7

ROMEO‘S MAGIC found one too good in the form of Trois Trois Quatre in his last outing over this C&D. Two of his six career victories have come over this C&D. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and he will be doing his best work at the finish.

PEWTER SKY is better than his last start over 2000m at the Vaal. He finished third in his only attempt on this course. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and he should pose a threat.

FIFTH OF JULY stayed on when third over 1600m on the Standside course. It must be noted that Funky Music has come out and won again since. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. With luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 8

AMPERSAND ran on well when winning his last start over this C&D. He is now unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The son of Judpot received a three-pound penalty for his last victory. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

LULU‘S BOY lasted long enough when winning his last start over this distance at the Vaal. All five of his career victories have come over this distance. He shows good speed in his races and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, he may be hard to peg back.

LAW OF SUCCESS found more where it matters most to win her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. She runs well for Philasande Mxoli and should give the males a run for their money.

Race 9

TUSCAN GOLD won a game race in his last start over this C&D. The blinkers have done the trick on the son of Visionaire. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts over this distance. He is in a good space and can follow up in this line-up

AMBRYM was an easy winner on debut over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She returns from a 17-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She does take on stronger, but could be anything and should be up to the task at hand.

KALAHARI BLUE has shown signs of needing his last two starts. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from five starts on this course. The son of Querari should be cherry-ripe and from his good draw of four, can improve to place
