Race 1
PALACE DANCER produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. Despite racing green, she stayed on well to finish second. The daughter of Potala Palace would have gained from the experience. She is the stable elect with Phelisile Mongqawa and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
KIT KAT KATIE finished 1.35 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
BELLISSIVAR showed good speed over 1000m last time before getting caught late by Perini Palace. She is a consistent type and can earn another cheque for her patrons. She is carded to race on 5 September 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 2
BLIZZARD SNOW ran a good race on debut over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace but found one too good in the form of Musical Score. The daughter of Erupt would have gained from the experience. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55.5kgs and should give the males a run for their money.
BUSSTOPINHOUNSLOW stayed on at the finish over 1450m last time but found one too good in the form of Force De Dieu. He should be ideally suited to 1200m and should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
HIS LORDSHIP returns from a 20-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of What A Winter has plenty of scope and if not in need of the run, he can feature in this line-up.
Race 3
BAD MEDICINE’S last start is best ignored as he was reported to be not striding out. He ran a fair race on debut behind Buffalo Storm Cody over 1000m. The 20-week break would have done him the world of good. He is a horse with scope and may be the one to side with in this line-up.
ALONE TIME has run two fair races to date. The son of Willow Magic is a progressive type and in this field, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
MIZZEN SWORD showed good improvement in his last start over 1100m on this course. He lost a length leaving the start and stayed on to finish fourth. If getting away to a clean start, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
I AM REGAL raced from a handy position over this distance on the Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of Indian Ocean. The daughter of Canford Cliffs takes a drop in class and with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, she should notch up her fourth-career victory.
AVOONTOAST finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
ARIEL’S JET fought hard for her last victory over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. She has won once and finished third once from three starts on this course. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
Race 5
ALABAMA ANNA has consistent form lines to her credit. She has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare drops back in class and she may be hard to peg back.
BLUE HORIZON ran a good race when second in the Betway The Lady’s Stakes last time. All three of her career victories have come over this distance. Despite carrying top weight, she should pose a massive threat.
HILLARY STEP won a good race in her last start over 1600m on the Classic course. She returns from a well-deserved 12-week break. Apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and if not in need of the run, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 6
WILLOWILD was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1500m on this course. She was slow into stride but got up where it matters most. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of One World takes on stronger, but she has scope and should be up to the task at hand.
RISKY BUSINESS is a winner of her last three starts, the latest of which was over 1500m on this course. She is back against her own sex and merits healthy respect.
NORTHERN KITTEN ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 7
BLACK EGRET was running on when fifth in the Listed Umngeni Handicap over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won three times, finished second twice and third twice from nine starts over this distance. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.
TSAR BOMBA won a good race over 1400m on this course last time. Two of his four career victories have come over this distance. If not in need of the run, he can follow up.
ESQUEVELLE quickened up well to win his last start over 1000m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is a solid back up for the Clinton Binda stable.
Race 8
PURPLENINJATURTLE’S last two starts have been good. He stayed on well when third over this C&D last time. The son of Time Thief is having his peak run today and in this line-up, he should take a power of beating.
PRINCE OF KILDARE is better than his last start in a Graduation Plate. His two starts prior to that outing were good. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and is one of the leading contenders.
BREGARDT ran a fair race in his post maiden effort despite excuses. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He carries a light mass and cannot be ignored
