Race 1
WINDS OF CHANGE has produced two good second place finishes to date. He lost a length leaving the start in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time but stayed on well at the finish. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and in this field, he should take a power of beating.
DON’T CRY FOR ME produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. He lost a length leaving the start but ran on well at the business end. The son of One World would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SICILY was in need of his debut effort over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. He returns from a 10-week break, during which time he was gelded and changed stables. The son of Rafeef should have improvement to come.
Race 2
KINDRED HEART has produced three good efforts to date. She showed good speed over 1000m at Turffontein last time before getting outrun late. It must be noted that Golden Chandelier has come out and won again since. The daughter of Erupt should have no issues with the 1200m and she can shed her maiden tag.
TAKE YOUR PLACE produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. She showed good pace but was caught in the shadow of the post. The daughter of Bezrin would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement. She is carded to race on 28 March 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
BOSUM BUDDY ran a good race on debut over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course. If seeing out the extra furlong on offer, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE has found a form return in his last two starts. He set the pace over 2400m on this course last time but was caught late by Positive Attitude. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The 7-year-old gelding steps up to 2800m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can go one better.
LEESON stayed on at the finish over 2400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Afraad. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts on this course. He will strip much fitter and is one of the leading contenders.
NAMAQUA BLOSSOM finished 0.45 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
MESSALINA showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She jumped awkwardly leaving the starting stalls, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She takes on older company but is the stable elect and she has plenty of scope.
KISS OF FIRE has shown improvement in each of her races to date. She stayed on when third over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BILINGUAL produced a typical second run after a rest last time. Her penultimate run when second over 1160m at Turffontein was encouraging. She will be at peak fitness and cannot be ignored.
Race 5
CAPE LIGHTS had to overcome a wide draw in her last start over this distance at Turffontein. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. Her form prior to her last outing was consistent. If putting her best foot forward, she is capable of returning to winning ways.
ELEGANT ICE’S last three starts have been good. She showed good speed over 1160m at Turffontein last time but was outrun late. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Her best form has been under Craig Zackey and the combination merit healthy respect.
PLATINA PRINCESS ran a fair race in the Grade 3 Betway Sycamore Sprint last time. She finished 1.35 lengths behind ALABAMA ANNA in her penultimate run. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 6
MOUNT PILATUS should have won his last start over 1160m at Turffontein as he hung in the final 200m. The son of Pomodoro won his only attempt on this course. Kabelo Matsunyane retains the ride and despite his big mass of 61.5kgs, he can go one better.
RICHARD THE FIRST ran a fair race in the Grade 3 Betway National Currency Sprint last time. It must be noted that One Fell Swoop has come out and won again since. The son of William Longsword will be mowing down the frontrunners.
MK’S DREAMS raced from a handy position over 1600m last time, but found one too good in the form of Presley. He is having his first run on the Vaal straight course and if suited, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 7
QUE CEU AZUL has shown improvement in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. She raced from a handy position last time, but found one too good in the form of Mia Fiore. The daughter of Querari has dropped to a competitive rating and with Piere Strydom retaining the ride, she can go one better.
SECRET RECIPE finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
MISS HANNIGAN stayed on when second over 1200m on this course last time. The daughter of Canford Cliffs should enjoy the rise to 1400m. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 8
AMBER ROCK took on stronger company in her last start over this distance at Turffontein. Her penultimate run when third over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight takes on her own sex, drops in class and should notch up her second-career victory.
DARING ACT showed good improvement in his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. He showed good speed but tired late. The son of Act Of War will enjoy the drop back to 1000m and if confirming his recent improvement, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
KINSHIN SHA tried hard in his last start over this distance at Turffontein. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and should be right there.
Race 9
COPPER JOHN moved up well in his last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course, but was outrun late. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause. In this line-up, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
HAKAS KRAKAS has taken on stronger in his three efforts out of the maidens. The son of Jackson drops in class and has dropped in the ratings. With luck in running, he should have improvement to come.
EIGER SANCTION is better than his last start over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be competitive
