Race 1
KINSHIN SHA showed very good improvement when second in his last start over this C&D. He showed good speed, but was caught late by Richard The First. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and in this field, he should be the one to beat.
MOOLA MAN has run two fair races to date. He returns from a 10-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of Lancaster Bomber has plenty of scope and if not in need of the run, he should be one of the leading contenders.
SOUTHERN STYLE is having her first run for the Craig Mayhew stable. She should have finished closer to the winner in her last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 3.5kgs off her back and she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 2
The tentative first selection is WONDERWORLD from the Candice Dawson stable. He is better than his recent form suggests. He took on stronger company last time and the jockey reported something to be amiss in his penultimate run. He finished second in his only attempt on this course. The son of Ideal World tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can win a race of this nature.
COROMANDEL showed good improvement in his last start over 2000m on this course. He drops in class and if repeating that effort, he should be competitive. He is carded to race on 19 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
NUCLEAR FORCE finished 3.45 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables. Richard Fourie takes the ride and there should be improvement to come.
Race 3
WAR QUEEN produced an encouraging debut effort over this C&D, in a work riders contest. Despite a slow start, she showed good pace and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Act Of War would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the horse to beat.
JUMPING ANALIA ran a decent race on debut over this distance at Turffontein. She showed good speed that day, but may have needed the run in the closing stages. The daughter of Erupt would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
FLYING PUMA was touched off on debut at a long price over this distance at Turffontein. She showed good pace, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Si Veloce. She would have come on from the run and if repeating that effort, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 4
SUNSHINE DAY makes her local debut and she is having her first run for the Tony Peter stable. She may not have seen out the mile at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time and drops back to the 1400m. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If settled into her new surroundings, she should be the one to beat in this line-up.
SHINY SILVA showed good improvement in her last start over this distance, against winners. She lost a length leaving the start and stayed on at the business end. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BEES AND HONEY showed good improvement in her last start over 1200m on this course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. The daughter of Erupt is a progressive type and may have more to come.
Race 5
ROYAL EDITION has produced two decent efforts to date. He stayed on at the finish over 1200m last time and will love the extra furlong on offer. The son of Flower Alley is a progressive type and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
WAZZUP finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice on debut. He would have come on from the run and will love the rise to 1400m. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and the son of Trippi should make the natural improvement.
LT ALEXANDER has been disappointing in his last two starts. His effort when second over 1000m three runs ago, was encouraging. He is carded to race on 17 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored
Race 6
NOW I GOT YOU is better than his last start over this C&D. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts on this course. The son of Admiral Kitten has dropped in the ratings and the pacifiers may do the trick. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he is capable of returning to winning ways.
CAPTAIN OF GRIT stayed on when third over 1600m at Turffontein last time. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from five starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces
FRENCH IMPACT is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes. The 10-week break may have done him the world of good. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and is the best weighted runner in this contest.
Race 7
TOTAL SURRENDER was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. He quickened up well, took the lead at the 300m mark and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The son of Flower Alley is above average and from pole position, he should be the horse to beat.
PEWTER SKY finished 0.4 lengths behind SILVANO’S SONG last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is versatile and is one of the leading contenders.
SILVANO‘S SONG was running on when second over 1800m at Turffontein last time. He carries another handy galloping mass of 53kgs and if jumping on terms, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 8
BERENGARIA showed good signs of a form return last time. She finished 1.6 lengths behind WHAT A HONEY that day and is 3.5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and she is capable of notching up her fourth career victory.
WHAT A HONEY ran on well when second over 1400m at Turffontein last time. She has won twice and finished third twice from five starts over this C&D. The daughter of What A Winter will be mowing down the frontrunners.
ON CUE got up where it matters most to win her stable debut over 1000m on the Classic course. She has won twice, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this C&D. Philasande Mxoli retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 9
ICE STAR is better than her last start over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack as the jockey reported something to be amiss. Her penultimate run when winning over this distance was eye- catching. She is back on the Highveld and gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo. She has plenty of scope and may be the one to side with.
MICKE‘S BOMB finished 0.5 lengths behind DANCING DORA last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Calvin Habib steps back into the saddle and she must be included in all bets.
DANCING DORA is better than her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. Her form prior to that outing was decent. She runs well for Gavin Lerena and can earn a cheque for her patrons
