Another week without sport has passed and if you followed my advice on last week’s Bachelor South Africa show you will, no doubt, be in agreement that I should stick to Sports Betting.
Short of betting on the Belarusian Football League there really isn’t a lot to get excited about at the moment and I thought I would use this week’s article to look at some of the future markets we can look forward to.
2021 sees the British and Irish Lions touring South Africa and I was quite interested to see the Lions are 6/10 favourites to win the series with the Springboks 27/20 and the drawn series quoted at 33/1. Given that the home side are current World Champions there may be some value in an early play there.
At this point there is still betting on the US Open Golf with Rory Mcilroy an 8/1 favourite ahead of Dustin Johnson 12/1 and Major specialist, Brooks Koepka is priced at 14/1.
On that note I must say it is extremely disappointing not to have the Masters on in early April as it was and remains one of my sporting highlights. I did see a tweet that it was being rescheduled for later in the year and, if that was accurate then it would clash with the Nedbank Challenge in November which would be a pity.
I had thought we might get a price on who would win next season’s English Premier League, but bookmakers are wisely staying out of this until we at least have a decision on what is happening with this season.
I did pick up some betting on the next permanent Manchester United Manager on the World Sports Betting site and here Mauricio Pochettino is a 4/10 favourite, but I am not sure it is wise to get involved in a market like this at this point.
When I was younger friends often joked that I would bet on 2 insects crawling up a wall or perhaps even on the weather and the joke is on them now as you can bet on the daily weather with prices available on the minimum and maximum temperatures in cities like Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. There are still opportunities out there still if you want to have a punt, but personally I will wait for the proper sport to start.
