BettingDiaryThe Tour de France, Stage 12 takes place on Thursday with the start in Chauvigny and the finish in Sarran Correze covering 218 kilometres. We look at the stage from a betting angle.

Stage 11 Wrap

Stage 11 of the Tour de France went very much as expected and a lone breakaway rider was allowed clear early. A strong group of 6 did try to give chase at one point, but the Peloton closed them down and rode calmly towards the final sprint where Caleb Ewan just got the better of Sam Bennett with Wout Van Aert finishing 3rd. Peter Sagan was unfortunately but correctly relegated to 85th position after shoulder barging Van Aert.

A look at the Classifications shows no real change in the Yellow Jersey betting, but in the Green Jersey, Bennett is now a very strong favourite with Sagan having dropped all those points.

The 12th Stage is a really tough one to pick a winner with a number of categorized climbs and plenty of rolling terrain. There seems to be little doubt that a breakaway will succeed and the winner will have to be a strong rider and most likely one who has performed well in the One Day Classics.

Stage 12 Verdict

The climbs are not steep enough to provoke a GC battle but the pure sprinters will struggle so this has the look of a one day classic.

That brings the favourite Alaphilippe firmly into the play and it's notable he was on domestique duty yesterday.

It's so competitive and so many with chances so Maximilian Schachmann is the back up. His team mate Peter Sagan might find the final Cat 2 climb too tough and that would free up Schachmann for a tilt at stage honours.

Stage 12 Bets:

Julian Alaphilippe at 11/2

Maximilian Schachmann at 16/1
