My picks for Kenilworth today:
Race 1 - El Cohete (25/10) to live up to his name (The Rocket). Money for the impeccably bred R9 million Snaith-trained first-timer, Wreath of Snow (13/20). Stable comments suggest that this is not race over but certainly one to follow. El Cohete has been costly to follow, but in better going today could get it right. Rust Never Sleeps (3/1) earned a stake cheque in both runs thus far, formline of last run not encouraging. Bass first timer, Cardinal King (50/1) could make quartet pay.
Race 2 - Over My Shoulder (11/10) is the half sister to 8 on 18. There has already been money for her and stable comments are much more positive. She will have her work cut out against Sabre Wing (24/10) who flew up in a time of 22.4s over the final 400m on debut from nowhere to finish 3rd. The Snaith yard does have a line through Red Flag who finished 2nd in that race. Rock The Road (7/1) is improving and should be in the places as well. Again the Snaith yard has a line through Spanish World and Spurious. Winter Blossom (14/1) is a horse to follow over the next couple of months, all but one of the family needed a run or two before earning.
Race 3 - Its'good It'snice (4/1) was found blowing and raced wide without cover in the Langerman last time out. If sorted out, ignore that run. Three good runs at Kenilworth before that, beaten under a length on each of those occasions. Not much between him and African Wild Dog (13/20) on their run behind Uncle Sam. Chancing the value here. Zanfan Moris (17/2) didn't enjoy the going last time. De Melo retains the ride, swingers with the first two mentioned. Boxed SW 2x3x8
Race 4 - Odds and Evens (6/10) banker for me at very short odds though. Will be tough to beat from draw 2.
Race 5 - Money pouring for Gin Palace 16/1 in to 15/4 at places. She is 2/2 over 1400m. Jou Lekker Ding (25/1) has two wins and four stake cheques from seven starts over 1400m. Might prefer the longer run in on the summer course but could place at good odds.
Race 7 - Prince of Tibet (13/2) holds most of the field here on her win three starts back on the main course. Another value bet.
Race 8 - With Chris. Cork Bay (11/10) with the swing at the weights looks hard to beat. Will chance a swinger and boxed exacta with the biggest priced runner in the field, Gold Dust (50/1), who had his best runs when contesting shorter distances. Third run after a rest, will include in the P6 and hope for a massive result in the last leg.

Vaal Thursday. I really struggled to find anything but will nibble at Repetition in R7 at around 6/1, seems like his best trip. Other than that a quiet day.

Vaal today not the most interesting of cards. Let's try these:
Race 2 - Jet Cat (9/2) been backed in from opening price of 15/2. Difficult to be overly confident on an 11-year-old but he has recent form over 1000m. Caladrius (17/20) can win, but not at that price for me. Would have given Bell Of Angelus (16/1) a chance, had the race been over 1200m.
Race 3 - Love Not War (12/10) should win easily if she runs to her merit rating and doesn't need the run after a 60 day rest. She ran 3l behind Get Up as a juvenile.
Race 5 - Smoking Gun (9/2) from an opening price of 7/1. Improving with every run, needs to jump on terms. Form behind Rising Eagle and Highwayman Harry. Finished a nose behind King Solomon, who came out and won next time out. A Roman Twist (26/10) was just behind Smoking Gun on debut. Also a big runner with natural improvement too come. Cool Gambler (29/20) returns from a lengthy break and gelding. This R5 million purchase is looking for further and should not be favorite imo.
Race 6 - A few going up in trip, the sort of field where one has to go wide in the Pick 6. Gus On The Bus (7/1) from an opening price of 10/1 also attracted money when he stepped up to 1600m the first time behind Parachute Adams. Carries the lightest weight in the race and could be value. Twelfth Of Never (9/2) best run was over 1800m with de Melo on. He could get it right over the extra 200m. Korcula (23/10) has earned a stake cheque in all 8 of his starts and should be there again. Boxed SW 4X5X8
Race 8 - Campo Formio (36/10) steps up in trip. Heavily backed when finishing a close 4th behind King Solomon about two weeks ago. One State (24/10) finished marginally ahead of him that day, but is having his 2nd run after a three month rest here. Mega Awesome (17/2) third run after gelding. Finished just behind One State before gelding. Better value. SW and Exacta 4x6

Fairview:
R6 Japanese Garden (a value play 12.5/1) returns to the turf where her form holds up at this level off a rating that has been coming down, collateral form (albeit on poly rather than turf) also puts her in with a shout against a couple of rivals who are shorter in the betting
R7 Stars In Heaven (win at 6/1), 3 good runs in stronger races on the poly since relocating to ECP, competitive race but looks a big player back on turf.
Greyville
Race 4 Zena Rose (win at around 7/1), consistent, finished well to take 3rd last time out and that form has been franked, regular jockey de Melo retains the ride
Race 5 Teflon Man (win at 11/2), blew the start from a wide draw last time but still ran well returning from a break. Seems best this trip and should be right there if jumping on terms
Race 7 What a Fortune (win at around 7/2), excuses last 2 on poly, only turf run here was a cracker against stronger

Greyville Race 1 - Hadrian's Wall (16/1) - Bumped at the start in last run, placed before that behind Charlie Bucket, who came out and won again. E/W. Top 6 places covers the win bet.

Race 5 - Future Variety (5/2) top run in the Post Merchants last time out. No Jet Force or Buffalo Storm Cody in this race.
Race 6 - Miss Twinkle (15/2) 2 from 2 over C&D.
Race 7 - Maphaka (33/10) - Very consistent runner. 2 seconds from 2 starts over C&D. Just touched off over 1400m last time.
Race 8 - Blue Steel (10/1) - Good form over 1400m including a close second to Bangladesh, who looks to be destined for bigger things this season.

Race 2 Shining Sun (win at 15/10) up in trip should suit after a decent effort behind a top sort last time.
Race 6 Mattiazo (each way nibble at 16/1), bounce back needed but better runs have come on the standside track
Race 7 Texas Missile (win at 6/1), ignore latest, 2nd run after gelding, capable at this level and well drawn at 3
Race 8 Fire In Her Soul (each way at 12/1) a bit to find with a couple of these but gate 1 a plus

Turffontein Saturday
Race 1 - Master's Lady (10/1) - Ignore last run, abnormal respiratory noise. Gets the services of in form Keegan de Melo and holds Elegant Edge on prior runs. Platinum Shay (19/2) hung in last time in the same workriders race as Master's Lady. Ran in the quartet behind the likes of Secretary Bird, Viking Lass and Alice B Toklas as a juvenile.
SW 3x7
Race 3 - Hot Choice (16/10) is looking for this trip. Trainer/jockey combo in red hot form. Be All You Can Be (8/1) has the form to finish in the top 3 for swingers and fixed places. Nicci's Law (11/2) holds Future Red on a line through Scandalize and another who is value for swingers.
Boxed SW 2x4x7
Race 4 - The Equator can win at 8/10 without my money. Held at the weights by Hawkbill, Fire 'n Flames and Hotarubi. Hotarubi (25/1) has some credible form over 1800m including a 3rd behind Pressonregardless and always does well in these Pinnacle Stakes races. Fire 'n Flames (9/1) was bumped at the start last time behind The Equator and should be another big runner with only 47.5kg on his back.
SW 6X7
Race 5 - Open, all of the first 5 in the betting for the Pick 6. African Prince (6/1) has already attracted some betting support. Again the Magner/de Melo combination. He has 3 second places from 3 starts over C&D, beaten under a length in each of those runs.
Race 7 - The Africa House (25/1) is dropping in MR and could surprise one of these days. Recent runs haven't been the worst including finishing under 3l behind Kisshoten, who ran out of her socks in the Gold Bracelet on Gold Cup day. Nice e/w bet. Trombolines (23/10) looks the right one here. Good second behind Errol Flynn over C&D as well earlier.
Race 8 - Merryweather (9/2) has a positive weight swing with American Beauty today. Again the inform trainer/jockey combo. She has good form over C&D, including beating Buddy Boy and finishing 2.5l behind Hazy Dazy.
Race 9 - Bay Empire (8/10) looks well in here. Can't find any value in the race. Will be disappointed if this short priced banker goes missing in the last leg of the P6
Fun R10 win and place multiple on the above mentioned de Melo runners:
Win - Master's Lady x Hot Choice x African Prince x Merryweather @ 1000/1 (1850/1 if including Chris' pick Shining Sun)
Top 3 places - Master's Lady x Hot Choice x African Prince x Merryweather @ 70/6 (13/1 if including Chris' pick Shining Sun).

Thanks Coil and well done on your picks in the Springbok match. Great day at Turffontein today, nearly hit that massive win multiple as well! Master's Lady benefitted from Midnight Special playing up when the gates opened. Midnight Special won't open any bigger than 5/10 in its next start. Shining Sun should also make amends next time.Very nice start JT , well done !

Sunday at Scottsville
Race 3 Heavenly Mafia 10/1, runs here rather than Friday’s meeting, excuses lately, only win came at this track
Race 4 Deonarie at 9/2, backed when running in last 2 starts, should be involved again
Race 6 Run To Rio at 33/10, back on turf and rating has been coming down. Looks a big player here despite wide draw
Race 8 Call Me Jane each way at 14/1. Excuses last time, consistent and value price if ready after a break

No big fancies today.
Race 4 - A bummer when 5 horses on my to follow list end up in the same race! Old Harry Rocks (13/1), with the blinkers fitted, nice e/w bet. Deonarie, Preux Chevalier, Judiciary and Dreadnought the others on my list.
Race 7 - Scarlet Macaw (7/10) the banker of the day. Plummets in class and should win easily.
Race 8 - Emerald Forge (35/1). Don't think this horse can win, but nice inclusion for quartets. 5kgs positive weight swing with Averni Princess. Apprentice Sesingi is starting to find the places and yard also been earning stake cheques of late. Many with chances. 4/1 top 4 places

Scottsville Race 5 - Parisian Walkway (2/1) finally dropping in ratings. Powerandtheglory (22/10) third run in KZN. Tries 1600m for the first time. Bangladesh (7/1) is above average and bumps his strongest opposition to date. Captain West (3/1) third run after a rest after changing stables. Strong form over 1600m including running less than 1.5 lengths behind Zeitz on Gold Cup Day.
