The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the 31st January including this weekend’s rugby action and the Cape Town Met.
It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of January, the month has flown by. On the betting front, I’ve been very quiet, but a glance at the ledger shows the bookmakers are ahead.
I’m not overly excited about this week’s URC card (with many 6 Nations players missing), but I am pumped for the SA derbies, and of course the WSB Met, a race I always get involved in.
The Handicap – Rugby Chat That Matters
The Oracle returned on Thursday night and we went through the URC fixtures, touching on other topics ranging from cricket to gold (yes, he did tip us gold about a year ago!). Below are the direct links to the two South African derbies:
- Jump to Lions v Bulls
- Jump to Sharks v Stormers
The WSB Met
This race snuck up on me and I wasn’t that excited until I chatted with Hilton Hasson, my old mate, in this WSB Met Preview on YouTube. He fancies the favourite in the Met itself, but it was his value plays on the rest of the card that really got my blood flowing.
The one that really stood out was Steadfast in Race 4, where Hilton reckons the price of 20/1 was incorrect in an open race.
BET: 0.5 units each way, No. 16 Steadfast in Race 4 - 19/1 a win and 5/1 a top 3 @ World Sports Betting
With Hilton sparking my interest, I had a good look around the Goodforthegame site. The forum thread is a must read if you're betting this afternoon, with some real quality from the lads. Chris also posts a bet in each race.
URC Round 11
All bets will be posted in the Round 11 Blog.
Last night I was on Scarlets at just shy of 5/1 and they missed a sitter of a conversion to win it - sick.
The two SA derbies take centre stage, and I’m on the overs in Joburg at 49.5 despite some rain forecast. The sun is peeking out as I type, and this bet has landed in the last three meetings.
BET: 2 units (1-5) Over 49.5 points at 0.93/1 — Pokerbet
I couldn’t watch the Stormers v Sharks game last week, but I loved the Sharks bench and took 22/1 Stormers/Sharks HT/FT. I got greedy to my cost and should’ve just backed the Sharks at close to 5/1.
The sides meet again in Durban, and I’ve made the Sharks favourites. I just feel the Stormers are wobbling a bit after a brilliant start, while the Sharks are finding their feet and on that basis I am happy to take odds-against on the home team.
BET: 2 units (1-5) Sharks win at 34/25 — BetXchange (1.36/1 net decimal)
