RACE 1
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WITCHING HOUR from the Zietsman Oosthuizen stable. She stayed on when fifth over 1400m last time. She finished 1.25 lengths behind CITY OF PORT LOUIS in her penultimate run. She is 6kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If seeing out the 1900m, she can shed her maiden tag.
CITY OF PORT LOUIS has improved since relocating to the Eastern Cape. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will enjoy the rise to 1900m. He is one of the leading contenders.
GREY WARRIOR found one too good in the form of Welsh Starlet over 2200m last time. The blinkers have been re-fitted. In this type of field, he can get it right.
RACE 2
LANA VIEW ran a good race when second against winners over this C&D last time. She set the pace but found one too good in the form of Canford Queen. Yuzae Ramzan is likely to use her early gate speed to overcome the widest draw without using up too much energy. She is back against maiden company and is the horse to beat.
SALAGADOOLA ran a fair race when fourth over this C&D last time. Xolani Ndlovu retains the ride, and in this field, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
MISS MACKIE was in need of her local debut over 1200m. She would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. Richard Fourie steps into the saddle and she should have improvement to come.
RACE 3
ROCKIE BLUE is the best bet on the programme. She produced a promising debut effort when second over this C&D. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was eye-catching. The daughter of Heavenly Blue would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should take a power of beating.
DYNASTY’S LAST finished 0.6 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 4kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
PRICELESS TREASURE has decent consistent form lines to her name. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. From pole position, she should produce another honest effort.
RACE 4
CHERRY OH BABY was running on when third over 1400m on this course last time. She won a good race over 1300m on this course in her penultimate run. The daughter of Danon Platina is the stable elect with Richard Fourie aboard. She can notch up her third-career victory.
FIERY COUNTESS ran a fair race when fourth in male company over this C&D last time. She is back in a handicap and may be the one to spoil the Greeff party.
SMASHING showed guts and determination when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Rafeef is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
RACE 5
NOTORIX finished 2.4 lengths behind WORLD PHAROAH last time. He is 7kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. 4kgs claiming Apprentice Varun Jodhee is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the wide draw, and he may be hard to peg back.
WORLD PHAROAH was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1000m on this course. His record over this distance is a concern, but he is in a good space and cannot be discounted.
MUNCHKIN should have finished closer last time as he was steadied at the 150m mark. With a bit of luck in running, he would not be a shock winner.
Race 6
This is a competitive Merit Rated 80 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is KINGS AGAIN from the Alan Greeff stable. Her last two starts over 1200m on this course have been good. She raced from a handy position last time and stayed on to finish third. She has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. The daughter of One World should give the males a run for their money.
ONE TOO MANY has found one too good in his last two starts over 1200m on this course. All six of his career victories have come over this distance. He is the stable elect with Muzi Yeni up and should be competitive.
WAROFDYNAMITE followed up his maiden win with a good third-place finish over 1200m. The son of Declarationofpeace is in a good space and can earn another cheque.
RACE 7
MY BEST SHOT is much better than his last start in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup. He finished 1.5 lengths behind ZATARA MAGIC in his penultimate effort. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won three times and finished third twice from as many starts on this course. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can return to winning ways.
ZATARA MAGIC is a winner of his last two starts. He has won twice and finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. The 6yo gelding is in a good space and can bring up the hat-trick.
BINGWA is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Founders Trophy. He has won over this C&D previously. If putting his best foot forward, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 8
Trainer Dean Smith holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. FRENCH FLAME was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. He has won once, finished second twice and third three times from nine starts over this distance. He does have an awkward draw of nine to overcome, but gets the services of Craig Zackey who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
SILVONIAN won a game race over this C&D last time. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. He jumps from a good draw of three and can follow up.
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN stayed on when fourth over 1600m on this course last time. Two of his five career victories have come over this distance. The son of Dynasty is an honest individual and cannot be ignored
