Race 1

This is a competitive Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MY ONE AND ONLY from the Barend Botes stable with Rachel Venniker taking the 1.5kgs off her back. She produced a promising debut effort over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The daughter of Act Of War found betting support that day. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to side with.

GERBERA ran a good race on debut over 1200m at the Vaal. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She would have gained from the experience and is one of the leading contenders.

FASTNET FILLY returns from a lengthy 34-week break and is having her first run on the Highveld. The daughter of Fastnet Rock has shown some ability in her last two efforts and if fit, she should be competitive.

Race 2

AMANATTO was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The winner was clear by 8.6 lengths that day. The daughter of Danon Platina produced an encouraging debut effort at the Vaal. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track. She meets the right field and if not in need of the outing, she should be the one to beat.

PARABELLUM was in need of his debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Rafeef would have come on from the run and he should be the first male past the post.

BIG BOY BRUCE showed massive improvement when second over 1200m at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Marco van Rensburg retains the ride and if confirming his recent improvement, he should feature.

Race 3

ROYAL GUIDE is better than his last two starts in KZN. The 6yo gelding returns from a 10-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts on this course. His best form has come under Gavin Lerena and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

MOUNT DARWIN won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He returns from a well-deserved 12-week break which would have done him the world of good. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off his back which will assist his cause.

STREWN SKY may not have seen out 2600m last time. He finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection, three runs ago. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 4

MAGIC TATTOO finished 1.8 lengths behind LUNARCAM in the Listed LHKIR In December Umngeni Handicap last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won twice, finished second once and third three times from eight starts on this course. The son of Willow Magic races well fresh and he would not be a shock winner.

CHOCOLATE SOLDIER ran a fair race in the Grade 2 @Worldpool Twitter Umkhomazi Stakes last time. It must be noted that Cats Pajamas has come out and won again since. He has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and merits healthy respect.

TAXI TO THE MOON was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the Inside course. He faces a strong field, but has some class about him and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 5

FATAL FLAW has finished second in her last four starts. She raced from a handy position over 1450m on the Inside course last time, rallied late but was touched off by Slinky Mapimpi. The daughter of New Predator would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Piere Strydom steps back into the saddle and she may be the one to beat.

WORLD OF ALICE was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes last time. She drops back to 1400m and the blinkers should sharpen her up. She is drawn widest of all in barrier 11 but Craig Zackey knows her well and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

LITTLE BALLERINA ran a fair race in the Grade 2 World Pool With Gold Circle Debutante last time. She won her only attempt on this course. On her best form shown, she should be involved at the finish. VALIEVA finished 3.65 lengths behind

Race 6

LEGEND OF ARTHUR had to overcome a wide draw of 13 when fifth in the Grade 1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes last time. He returns from a 14-week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of Lancaster Bomber has plenty of class about him and he jumps from a good draw of four. Richard Fourie retains the ride and he can return to winning ways.

THE SPECIALIST is the stable companion of the top choice. He stayed on when second over 1200m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of The United States merits healthy respect.

FIRE ATTACK was an easy winner of the Grade 2 TAB SA Nursery last time. He returns from a lengthy 30-week break and makes his seasonal debut. If he has trained on, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 7

SILVER SANCTUARY had to overcome a wide draw in her seasonal debut over this distance on the Inside course. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Silvano has cracked a good draw of three and she will love the return to the Standside course. On best form shown, she can return to winning ways.

FRANCES ETHEL was running on when second over this distance on the Inside course last time. She has won twice and finished second once from as many starts on this course. She is drawn in barrier two once again and merits healthy respect.

DAVE THE KING‘S last two victories have come in Grade 1 races. He returns from a 14-week break and is making his seasonal debut. He is the class horse in the race and deserves to carry 63kgs. The slight concern is that he is yet to win on this course from five starts. However, Richard Fourie retains the ride and the combination cannot be ignored.

Race 8

OLIVIA‘S WAY is a winner of her last two starts. She was settled at the rear of the field over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, quickened up well and won easier than the official margin suggests. The daughter of Pathfork faces her toughest test to date but she has ability and should be up to the task at hand.

RED MAPLE is better than her last two starts at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She returns from a 14-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won twice, finished second three times and third twice from 11 starts on this course. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and she can show improvement.

LADY FALLON has some decent recent form lines to her credit. She would have come on from her last outing and should strip much fitter. She carries a nice weight of 54kgs and can earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 9

ZEUS challenged strongly in his last start before getting denied by RAISEAHALLELUJAH. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won three times and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. He has had a good preparation heading into this race and should be the one to beat.

RAISEAHALLELUJAH is a winner of his last two starts. He has won twice and finished second three times from six starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

NONE OTHER was outrun late when third over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck from her wide draw of 12, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 10

HIGH QUEUE followed up his maiden win with a hard-fought victory over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He received a two-pound penalty for that victory. The son of Master Of My Fate meets a similar line-up this afternoon and from his good draw of two, he can bring up the hat-trick.

AMERICAN REBEL challenged strongly over 2000m last time but found one too good in the form of Guy Alexander. He finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

NEW MEXICO produced a typical second run after a rest last time. The son of Ideal World takes a drop in class and jumps from pole position. On best form shown, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
