The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend 31st January to 2nd February including the opening round of the Six Nations
After getting the newsletter off to a profitable start the previous week I came back down to earth quite heavily last week.
DISGRACEFUL STORMERS
The Stormers were away to a Leinster team missing over 20 players and I really thought they could give the log leaders a go. The reality was far from it though and they were given an absolute hiding and sadly a couple of my bookies accounts took a similar punishment.
Calling European rugby has proved tricky (for me at any rate) in recent weeks and hot on the back of the Saracens getting beat when priced at -30 against Castres in the Champions Cup, we had Ulster -24.5 at home to Zebre getting rolled – that would have been the final leg of a few acca’s for me but fortunately they had already gone belly up and I wisely never got further involved.
THE HANDICAP
I have been corresponding with The Admiral for a couple of years on Twitter and on the Goodforthegame Forum. About a year ago I asked him if he wanted to be a guest on the show, but things just didn’t work out at the time. I got a message from him last week saying he was keen to come on and he joined me last night to discuss the Six Nations, including some long-term plays

I must admit to getting a shock when I saw him for the first time as he is literally the age of my son but what a pleasure to chat to someone who loves his rugby and potentially rugby betting even more.
Unfortunately, the show was disrupted near the end due to a poor connection on his side (he was in Dublin) and I have always found it fascinating over the years that a lot of our technical hitches have come with the overseas Wi-Fi connections which goes against common perceptions about SA.
In any event we are going to have him on again sooner rather than later.
SIX NATIONS
The Northern Hemisphere lads are calling the Six Nations the best Rugby Tournament in the world (aside from RWC of course) and I am very much in agreement with them. It always serves up some great rugby and this year we have France shading favouritism ahead of Ireland and next week’s game in Dublin is going to be an absolute cracker.

WEEKEND PLAYS
It feels strange to only have 3 rugby games this weekend and that means throwing a few other sports in as well.
ITALY TO HOLD THE SCOTS
The Admiral like me was leaning towards Italy on the cap but his best bet was that they keep Scotland under 36.5 points. Scotland should win but I think they will miss their Captain and Italy only conceded 29 at home to New Zealand last year and have improved their defence.
BET: 5 units Scotland u36.5 points at 9/10 at Pokerbet
CAPITALS & SUNRISERS ON THE DOUBLE
I have been enjoying the cricket without getting too heavily involved.
This evening I fancy the Capitals to keep their tournament alive with a win over MI Cape Town who are already into the top 2 playoff – read Chris’s preview here
Tomorrow the Sunrisers will be looking to book their spot against the Paarl Royals and back on home ground I think they get the job done
BET: 2 units PC 12/10 onto SEC 7/10 at 2.74/1 at Betway – use the promo code GFTG
A 52/1 SPECULATOR
Here is a cross sport acca that will hopefully give me an interest cross the weekend
Under 14.5 Wales points 17/20
Pirates v Chiefs draw at 5/2 (crazy they haven’t drawn in 17 matches)
England win at 5/2 (no I did not have drinks at Friday lunch)
Adesanya by decision in UFC at 27/20
BET: 0.5 units at 52/1 at WSB – use this code to populate your slip 25396710
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS ON GOODFORTHEGAME
- Mamelodi Sundowns may dominate the PSL, but the biggest fixture remains the Soweto Derby, Pirates v Chiefs. Chris previews the game here.
- We are only one week away from UFC 312 which will see Dricus du Plessis defend his title against Sean Strickland and to warm us up we have an excellent card on UFC Fight Night and you can read this weekend’s preview in the WSB Blog.
- Click here to see what our Horse Racing punters fancy in the Forum where there are also threads on football, the SA20 cricket and the NBA.
Have a great weekend everyone,
Cheers
