UP THE ANTE showed very good improvement when fourth over 1160m at Turffontein last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that Green Sapphire has come out and won again since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will strip much fitter and she should have more to come.
MAVERICK QUEEN has produced two decent efforts to date. The daughter of Captain Of All has plenty of scope and she is one of the leading contenders.
TIPPERARY is better than her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 2
BAD MEDICINE’S last two starts have been decent. He was reported to be fatigued after his last outing over this distance at Turffontein. The son of Vercingetorix is coming along the right way and in this field, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
CASUS BELLI is better than his last start over 1450m on this course. He finished 0.9 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
THE MERCIFUL is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. The son of Coup De Grace runs well for Jockey Philasande Mxoli. On best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
THAMBI is better than his recent form suggests. The son of Soft Falling Rain returns from a 10-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has dropped in the ratings and takes a drop in class. If not in need of this outing, he can return to winning ways under Kaidan Brewer who knows him well.
FLAG BEARER stayed on at the finish over 2400m on this course last time, but found one too good in the form of Romeo’s Magic. He was given a perfect ride by Piere Strydom when winning his penultimate effort over this C&D. If this run has not come too soon, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
VAVA VEGAS ran a fair race over 1450m on this course last time. The son of The United States should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and he cannot be ignored.
Race 4
MISS HANNIGAN raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Canford Cliffs meets a similar line-up this afternoon and with Piere Strydom retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with.
FROZEN FANTASY is better than her last start in the Listed 4Racing War Of Athena Handicap. She will enjoy the drop back to 1600m and on best form shown, she should be competitive.
COCOMELON was running on when fourth in the Grade 3 Betway Mother Russia Stakes. She finished 6.25 lengths behind the second selection in her penultimate run. She is 6kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 5
GIMME PASSION won a game race in her last start over 1450m on this course. She will love the rise to 1600m. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight takes on stronger, but she is a progressive type and should be up to the task at hand.
PRETTY ANALIA should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be switched for running room at the 150m mark. With a bit of luck in running, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
BOOM BOOM won a good race in her last start over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She finished 2.7 lengths behind the second selection in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights and may battle to turn the form around.
Race 6
POTBERRIE was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes last time. The son of Potala Palace returns to Handicap Company and with Muzi Yeni back in the saddle, he may be the one to beat.
ROYAL FORCE was an easy winner on debut over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Heavenly Blue takes on stronger, but he could be anything and can remain unbeaten.
PALACE DANCER was an easy winner of her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. The daughter of Potala Palace is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 7
FOREVERINMYDREAMS finished 0.75 lengths behind NIGHT VIGIL last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is having her peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
NIGHT VIGIL won a good race in her stable debut over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
CHROME TOURMALINE showed signs of needing her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She will strip a much fitter horse and can go close.
Race 8
THE NAVY LARK ran a fair race over this distance at Turffontein last time. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this C&D. The daughter of Captain Of All drops in class and is back against her own sex. She may be the one to side with.
PHANTOM EXPRESS‘ last two starts have been good. She challenged strongly last time before getting outrun late by Neerah. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
QUASIKAT followed up her maiden win with a decent fourth-place finish over 1160m at Turffontein. The daughter of Quasillo has plenty of scope and if jumping on terms, she should give a good account of herself
