Race 1
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to the first timers. MASCHERINA is a daughter of Gimmethegreenlight from the Peter Muscutt stable with Muzi Yeni in the saddle. She is related to Grade 1 winner Malmoos. If not in need of the outing, she should start her career on a positive note.
TOMYRIS hails from the Gareth van Zyl stable and she is a daughter of Vercingetorix. She is related to three-time winner Black Lightning. Athandiwe Mgudlwa is booked to ride and if not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself.
A TIME TO DANCE‘S last three starts have been fair. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark. With a bit of luck in running, she should be the first raced runner past the post.
Race 2
CAPTAIN’S CHRISTY fought hard in the Grade 2 Debutante last time, but found one too good in the form of Cala Muretta. She returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Captain Of All has won twice and finished third twice from five starts on this course. She carries a light mass of 51.5kgs and if fit, she should take a power of beating.
TIME FO ORCHIDS showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SUN BLUSHED is better than his last two starts over further. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should be the first male past the post.
Race 3
FLIGHT MANEUVER made the expected natural improvement when second in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It must be noted that Minogue has come out and won again since. She is a progressive type and with luck in running, she can go one better.
CELTIC BEAUTY produced a promising debut effort over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She was slow into stride and rallied late. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and should love the extra furlong on offer.
ELUSIVE BELLE ran a good race when third over 1600m on the Polytrack last time. She has cracked pole position and if jumping on terms, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 4
GLOBAL RULER raced from a handy position over 1800m last time and stayed on to finish second. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and he can go one better in this line-up.
FIREFLARE showed good improvement when third over 1700m on the Polytrack last time. He lost a length at the start and stayed on at the finish. He is a progressive type and should have more to come.
HIAWATHA GOLDBERG should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was inconvenienced at the 100m mark. He will love the extra 150m on offer and with a bit of luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
PLAYER X ran a good race when second in his last start over 1900m on the Polytrack. The saddle slipped in running that day which didn’t help his chances. The son of Master Of My Fate is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. He tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can shed his maiden tag.
SWIFT NICKS set the pace over 2200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time, but found one too good in the form of True Trojan. He is likely to adopt the same tactics this afternoon and may be hard to peg back.
IMAGINABLE finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 6
MIA’S ATHENA is better than her last start on the polytrack as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She has finished second in both her efforts on this course. She is a filly with ability and back on the turf, she can return to winning ways.
MAQUETTE finished 1.05 lengths behind HOT PEARL last time. She is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Three of her five career victories have come over this C&D and she is one of the leading contenders.
SABATINI showed good speed over this distance on the Polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Shipholia. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back.
Race 7
BEECHAMWOOD BOY was not beaten far in his comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He has won four times, finished second once and third once from eight starts on this course. He will strip a much fitter horse and if the 1000m is not on the sharp side, he should notch up his eighth career victory.
DONQUERARI finished 0.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
KUPHOLIWE is better than his last start over 1400m. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is having his peak run today and with luck in running, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 8
CYBER TIME was an easy winner of his last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He lost two lengths leaving the start and despite hanging in the straight, he won with a ton in hand. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili retains the ride and if jumping on terms, he can follow up in this field.
KHANYISA INDLELA ran a good race when second in his last start over 1900m on the Polytrack. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of Gimmethegreenlight. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DONTSTOPMENOW finished 3.1 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned
