TYSON THE BRAVE showed good speed over 1000m on this course last time, but was outrun late. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and if seeing out the 1400m, he can shed his maiden tag in this field.
CARE TAKER showed improvement in his last start over 1200m on the Inside course. He finished 2 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The son of Querari will love the rise to 1400m and he is one of the leading contenders.
VIVACIOUS VICKY should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied at the 200m mark. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Gavin Lerena steps into the saddle and with luck in running, he should be competitive.

WILKIES was running on when second over 1000m on this course last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. The daughter of Announce meets the right field today and she can go one better. She is carded to race on 25 July 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored
SHINE IN MEMPHIS finished 1.85 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The daughter of Oratorio would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
LIBERTY FLAG showed good improvement in a work riders race last time. She showed good speed, but was outrun late by Neerah. The daughter of Flying The Flag will strip much fitter and if confirming her improvement, she can feature
Race 4
CAPTAIN WARA took his chances in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time. His form prior to that outing was good. The son of Captain Of All is back against Maiden Company this afternoon and with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle, he should shed his maiden tag.
MAGIC PRINCE raced wide around the turn in a work riders race last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Willow Magic has no issues with the drop to 1160m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BREGARDT has produced two fair outings to date. The son of Willow Magic has plenty of scope and can improve to finish in the placings
Race 5
TAYOOBA has produced two good runs since returning from a 10-week break. She showed good speed over 1200m last time, but was caught late. The daughter of Var is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. She takes a drop-in class and should give the males a run for their money.
IRON SKY was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. If jumping on terms, he can follow up
PENDRAGON finished 2.9 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 6
WHAT A HONEY was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She ran on strongly at the finish that day and got up where it matters most. The daughter of What A Winter finished third in her only attempt over this distance. She is in a good space and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
KAYLA‘S CHAMP was slow into stride over this C&D last time, but stayed on to finish second. If jumping on terms, she should be involved in the fight to the finish. She is carded to race on 20 July 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
PRINCESS PHILIPPA finished 0.3 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 7
NAPOLEON should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was baulked for running room between the 400m mark and the 150m mark. The son of Rafeef takes a drop-in class and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most
FUNKY MUSIC won a game race in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from eight starts over this distance. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off his back which will help his cause.
FLAG BEARER was a surprise winner in his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts on this course. The son of Flying The Flag is likely to race on the speed and he may be hard to peg back.
Race 8
PERFECT WITNESS finished 0.75 lengths behind INDLAMU last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She won a good race in her penultimate run under Gavin Lerena. The daughter of Flower Alley is in a good space and can notch up her fourth career victory.
MILLAHUE ran on strongly when winning his last start over 2000m on the Inside course. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RAFFLES finished 1.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 9
CLIMATE CONTROL should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be eased in the latter stages. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from seven starts on this course. The fitting of the blinkers is encouraging. He takes a drop back in class and from pole position, he is capable of returning to winning ways.
AMERICAN STAR ran a good race when third over 1600m on this course last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter
