Race 1
SCARLET MACAW produced a promising debut effort over this C&D, eight weeks ago. She was green in running, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Horizon would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
BE MERRY should have finished closer to the winner on debut as she had to be switched for running room at the 200m mark. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber would have come on from the run and is one of the leading contenders.
DUCHESS OF PALOMA is better than her last start in the Non-Black Type Cape Racing Sales Cape Slipper. It must be noted that Little Ballerina has come out and won again since. If finding the form of her debut run, she should be competitive.
Race 2
MASTER OF PARIS’ last three starts have been good. He stayed on when third over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that Radicchio has come out and won again since. If ridden with restraint, he should notch up his second-career victory.
TOTHEMOONANDBACK finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. He will strip much fitter and should go close.
BIG POPPA should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was unbalanced at the 200m mark. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
ALLEZ MORIS won a good race in his last start over 1800m on this course. The manner in which he won that day suggests that he should have no issues with the rise to 2200m. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
LOVE IS A ROSE returns from a 14-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has been racing in features and drops in class. If not in need of this outing, she should give the males a run for their money.
SUDDEN SONG was running on when second over this C&D last time. He carries another handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
WATER DRAGON showed signs of needing his last start over 1600m. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. His debut effort when third over this C&D was encouraging. The son of Rafeef will strip a much fitter horse today and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to beat.
MONT LOISIR set the pace over this C&D last time and fought hard all the way to the line. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Richard Fourie is likely to send him to the front from barrier two and he may be hard to peg back.
WALK WITH ME produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. He was green in running but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If not too green around the turn, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 5
CALLMEGETRIX is better than her last start in the Listed Schweppes Cape Fillies Classic as the jockey reported something to be amiss. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She takes a drop in class and on her previous form, she may be the one to side with.
GO LIKE FLO finished 0.8 lengths behind GLEE CLUB last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
GLEE CLUB was running on when second over this C&D last time. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and merits obvious inclusion.
Race 6
INNAMORARE was touched off in his last start over 1400m on this course. He is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. He jumps from a good draw of four and should keep that record intact.
SOLOMONS SEAL cost himself winning last time as he hung in the final 350m. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1600m. He is the stable elect with Sean Veale up and if keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.
POMODORO’S JET won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He finished 3 lengths behind the top selection in his penultimate run. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
Race 7
CATTALEYA finished 1.75 lengths behind BASIC MANEUVERS last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Silvano takes a drop in class. She jumps from pole position and Richard Fourie may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
SUMMER NIGHT CITY’S last three starts have been good. She finished 1.25 lengths behind BASIC MANEUVERS in the race referred to above. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
BASIC MANEUVERS followed up her maiden win with a good second-place finish over this C&D. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and with Aldo Domeyer back in the saddle, she should go close.
Race 8
PREVALENCE has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He tried hard in his last start when third over this C&D. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and from his good draw of two, he can return to winning ways.
IGNATIUS ran a fair race in his last start over 2000m on this course. He finished 6.1 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may have to settle for the same result.
ABERDEEN showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1600m on this course. The son of Visionaire should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and he can go one better.
Race 9
THE TINKERMAN should have won his last start over this C&D as he was carried outwards in the closing stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Bernard Fayd’Herbe retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, he can go one better.
FORT RED finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
NIGHT TIGER showed good speed when fourth in his last start over this C&D. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from nine starts over this C&D. Aldo Domeyer is booked to ride and the combination must be included in all bets.
Race 10
NIGHT VIGIL was running on when second over 1000m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and with Bernard Fayd’Herbe in the saddle, she can go one better.
GREAT CAT stayed on when third over 1200m on this course last time. She should have no issues with the drop to 1100m and is one of the leading contenders.
HEAR MY VOICE is a winner of her last two starts. She produced a strong finish to win her last start over 1000m on this course. The tongue-tie has done the trick and she can win again with Richard Fourie in the saddle.
