Race 1
MOUNT PINATUBO was not disgraced when second in the Grade 2 TAB SA Nursery last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Erupt should have no issues with the rise to 1600m. If getting away to a clean start, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
LEGEND OF ARTHUR was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and cruised in. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SUNSET RIOT drew off when winning his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He is a progressive type and will love the rise to the mile. Diego De Gouveia retains the ride and he should be involved at the finish.
Race 2
WORLD OF ALICE produced a promising debut effort over 1400m on this course. She finished 0.7 lengths behind TOO LATE MY MATE that day and is 3kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. She would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to the mile. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
TOO LATE MY MATE showed guts when winning her maiden at the second time of asking. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is a progressive type and merits healthy respect.
QUEEN OF FIRE set the pace when winning her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. The daughter of Erupt tries the mile and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should go close.
Race 3
BUFFALO STORM CODY was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1000m on the Inside course. Despite getting away to an awkward start, he showed pace and won with a ton in hand. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody could be anything and he can keep his unbeaten record intact.
WINDS OF CHANGE has finished second in all three efforts to date. He moved up like a winner last time, but was outrun late by Don’t Cry For Me. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
CHIEFTAIN showed good speed when winning his maiden at the second time of asking over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He takes on much stronger company, but is a progressive type and may be hard to peg back.
Race 4
SIMPLY MAJESTIC followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1000m on this course. She returns from a 14-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Canford Cliffs shows good speed in her races and if fit, she should be the one to beat.
BOSUM BUDDY got up where it matters most when winning her last start over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
PINATUBO is better than her last start against older rivals. She won a good race on debut over 1000m on the Inside course. She has scope and cannot be ignored.
Race 5
TIME FO ORCHIDS is a winner of her last four starts for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. She was settled at the rear of the field last time and ran on well over 1000m on this course. The daughter of Time Thief does meet a competitive field but she is in a very good space and can notch up her sixth- career victory.
WHITE PEARL was not disgraced when third in the Grade 2 TAB Hawaii Stakes last time. She finished 0.25 lengths behind ONE FELL SWOOP in her penultimate run. She is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Danon Platina will be mowing down the frontrunners.
ONE FELL SWOOP is a winner of her last two starts. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She shows good speed in her races and can notch up the hat-trick.
Race 6
GILDED BUTTERFLY ran a fair race in the Grade 1 TAB Empress Club Stakes last time. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if getting away to a clean start, she can return to winning ways.
MY SOUL MATE ran a good race when second in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks last time. She moved up well that day but was outrun late by Frances Ethel. The cheekpieces seem to have done the trick and she is one of the leading contenders.
BEATING WINGS finished 2 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 7
PURE PREDATOR challenged strongly in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby last time, but found one too good in the form of Purple Pitcher. The son of New Predator carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and he should be ideally suited to 2000m. Richard Fourie retains the ride and he can go one better.
HOTARUBI finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
SECOND BASE returns from a 12-week break, which may have done him the world of good. He has won once and finished second twice from eight starts over this C&D. This may be a prep run for upcoming races, but he has the class to be competitive.
Race 8
SURJAY is better than his last start in the Grade 1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship. He returns from a 13-week break which would have done him the world of good. His previous form was consistent. He has plenty of class about him and if suited to this course, he should be the one to beat.
LUCKY LAD stayed on when second in the Grade 2 TAB Hawaii Stakes last time. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.
RULERSHIP stayed on when third in the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint last time. He has won twice and finished third twice from five starts on this course. He is having his peak run and merits obvious inclusion.
Race 9
ZEUS is much better than his last two starts over shorter. The 5yo gelding will love the step up to 3200m. He does have to overcome the widest draw, but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. On his best form shown, he should notch up his fourth-career victory.
UNITED COUNCIL stayed on when third in the Listed 4Racing Caradoc Gold Cup last time. The daughter of The United States should have no issues with the 3200m and she should give the males a run for their money.
BREEZE OVER finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights and he may have to settle for the same result. He won his only attempt over this C&D and must be included in all bets.
Race 10
ATTICUS FINCH was in need of his debut effort over 1600m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He has placed over this C&D previously and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
MERCANTOUR was in need of his last start over 1160m on this course. Three of his five career victories have come on this course. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CELTIC RUMOURS ran a decent race in her last start over this C&D. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and from her good draw of two, she should give the males a run for their money
