Race 1
KYALAMI GIRL produced two good second-place finishes, the latest of which was in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies). She returns from a lengthy 43-week break. The daughter of Querari clearly has ability and if not in need of the run, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
CAPTAIN’S DESTINY showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position and stayed on at the finish. If confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a massive threat.
SEE YOU IN A BIT’S last two starts at Hollywoodbets Durbanville have been good. The 1200m on this course should suit her well and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 2
HOODIA produced a promising debut effort over this C&D, three weeks ago. He lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Ideal World would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.
SONG TO THE MOON showed good improvement when second in his last start over this C&D. He found one too good in the form of The Real Prince who looks to have plenty of class. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
STAR PERFORMER is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out and making an abnormal respiratory noise. He has been gelded which may have done the trick. If fit and well, he should be competitive
Race 3
MAD WORLD ran a decent race on debut over 1200m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. She returns from a 13-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber will be at home over 1400m. She does have an awkward draw of eight to contend with but gets the services of Bernard Fayd’Herbe who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
LICKETY SPLIT has finished second in her last four starts. She has been costly to follow but is in a good space and cannot be ignored.
ICE RAIN may not have seen out the 1800m last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She drops to the 1400m and the blinkers will sharpen her up. The combination of Andre Nel and Corne Orffer are in good form.
Race 4
FOUDRE has produced three good efforts to date. He stayed on at the finish over 2000m last time, but found one too good in the form of Epikleros. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He has been gelded which may have been what he needed. If not in need of this outing, he can shed his maiden tag.
GIVETHATMANABELLS showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position and tried hard all the way to the line. He is having his peak run today and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, he should go close to winning.
THE NIGHT FERRY was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. The son of Twice Over is a progressive type and if JP van der Merwe is able to switch him off early, he should be involved.
Race 5
FUN ZONE finished 0.85 lengths behind MONTELENA last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. It is encouraging that Aldo Domeyer steps back into the saddle and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
MONTELENA is lightly raced with some good form to her credit. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. With a bit of luck in running, she should be competitive.
UNCONQUERABLE LADY finished 0.1 lengths behind the second selection in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 6
MY FLOWER FATE is better than her last start in the Stayers Stakes. Her penultimate run when second over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville was encouraging. She is a filly with ability and from her handy draw of four, she can show her true potential under regular pilot Corne Orffer.
DOUBLE CHECK was doing her best work late last time. Her penultimate run when second in the Non-Black Type Betway Wedgewood Handicap was promising. If jumping on terms, she should run into the money.
BROADWAY GIRL is better than her recent form suggests. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. She has dropped in the ratings and Richard Fourie may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 7
KING PELLES took on a competitive field in the Grade 2 Cape Punters Cup last time. He was sent to the front that day which may not be his preferred running style. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Duke Of Marmalade tries the 1800m and if ridden with some restraint, he should take a power of beating.
NATYAM is the stable companion of the top choice. He was running on when second over this C&D last time. He is a horse with ability and is a solid back-up for the Gareth van Zyl stable.
BLACKBERRY MALT was doing his best work late when third over 1600m on this course last time. He is likely to adopt the same tactics in this line-up and can earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 8
BLUE HOLLY should have finished closer to the winner in the Grade 2 wsb.co.za Southern Cross Stakes last time as she had to be steadied in the latter stages. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. Her last victory came under Raymond Danielson and with luck in running, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
ONI SAN is better than her last start. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MISS GREENLIGHT was an easy winner of her last start over 1200m on this course. She received an eight-pound penalty for that victory. The 5yo mare is in a good space and she can follow up.
Race 9
YELLOWPORSCHEROAD showed signs of needing his last start in the Non-Black Type The Bantry Bay Stakes. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He takes a big drop-in class and will strip much fitter. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
PORQUE TE VAS finished 0.9 lengths behind THE ABDICATOR last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is having her peak run and can give the males a run for their money.
THE ABDICATOR won a good race in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is likely to race on the speed and must be included in all bets
