RACE 1
BLUEBERRY BLUE made the expected natural improvement when second in her last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. She set the pace that day, but found one too good in the form of Suchalife. She would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. The daughter of Pomodoro is a progressive type and can go one better.
QUEEN OF JAZZ finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
THREAD OF LIFE has run three fair races to date. She raced from just off the pace last time and stayed on to finish fourth. She has scope and should earn another cheque for her patrons.
RACE 2
ARABIAN RED ran a fair race in her local debut over 1000m on the Polytrack. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Heavenly Blue would have come on from the run and she should love the rise to the mile. Stable jockey Richard Fourie steps into the saddle and she may be the one to side with.
DUMISANI ran on from last when second in her last start over 2400m on this course. She returns from a 12-week break which would have done her the world of good. She is likely to be mowing down the frontrunners.
SUNDROP is a battling maiden having had 34 runs. Her recent form has been consistent and she should finish in the money once again.
RACE 3
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MAYOR OF MERRIVALE from the Juan Nel stable. He returns from a 13-week break and is having his first run for the stable. He has finished third three times from as many starts over this distance. If settled into his new surroundings, he can win a race of this nature.
DAWN CLOUD finished under a length behind the winner when taking on winners in his last start over 2000m. He returns from a 10-week break and is having his first run for Duncan McKenzie. Back in Maiden Company, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
PETTEIA finished 4.25 lengths behind COME ON YOU SPURS last time. He is 6.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.
RACE 4
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is much better than his last start against stronger company. His penultimate run when second over this distance on the polytrack, catches the eye. The son of Dynasty returns to Handicap Company and if finding the form of his penultimate run, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
VIGILANTE was an easy winner of his last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and was geared down in the latter stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
JASPERO has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may be hard to peg back.
Race 5
LIGHT WITHOUT finished 1.6 lengths behind MAGICAL MIDLANDS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his only attempt over this C&D. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of eight, he can return to winning ways. MAGICAL MIDLANDS won a good race in his last start over 2000m. The 6-year-old gelding tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can follow up.
PAINITE showed good guts when winning his last start over 2000m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 6
WOMAN’S WORLD set the pace in the Listed TAB East Cape Derby last time and stayed on to finish second. She ran on powerfully when winning her penultimate run over this distance on the Polytrack. The daughter of Global View is the best-weighted runner in this contest. She is versatile and with her light mass of 53kgs, she can notch up her third-career victory.
OFFICIAL SECRET is better than her last start as she raced wide around the turn. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Her last two victories have come under Richard Fourie and she is one of the leading contenders.
GIDEON’S DAUGHTER has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She stayed on when second over 1900m on the Polytrack last time. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and merits obvious inclusion.
RACE 7
SPLICETHEMAINBRACE is unbeaten from four starts to date. She won a good race in the Listed East Cape Nursery last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Master Of My Fate should have no issues with the rise to 1400m and she can remain unbeaten.
HAPPY HOLLY is lightly raced with good form lines to her name. She finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
BE MERRY hails from the visiting Justin Snaith stable. She has produced three good runs to date. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should have a say.
RACE 8
CHARLIE MALONE should have finished much closer to ARTURO last time as he had no luck in the straight. He has finished third three times from five starts on this course. With a bit of luck in running, he can return to winning ways.
MY BEST SHOT followed up his maiden win with a good third-place finish over this distance on the Polytrack. The son of Fire Away should love the return to the turf track. He has plenty of scope and should be involved at the finish.
DESTINY’S ANGEL ran a good race when fourth in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He won his maiden over this C&D, three runs ago. The main concern is his wide draw of 12 but he is a solid back-up for the Smith stable
Race 9
ON THE ROAD AGAIN was an easy winner of his last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and drew off late. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Vercingetorix meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up.
GREAT MELODY finished 0.35 lengths behind CAPTAIN TIK TOK last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
CAPTAIN TIK TOK’S last three starts have been good. He should have won his last start as he hung outwards in the final 300m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He should strip much fitter and must be included in all bets
